On August 30, Argentina Consul General Marcelo Gerschenfeld and Mr. Dennis Bruce, President of the Argentine-American Chamber of Commerce of the Southeast, met with Dr. Jun Liu and Prof. David Bruce to discuss possible collaborations between Argentina and GSU. The connection between OII and the Chamber of Commerce was created at a Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) event at the UPS Headquarters on April 18, 2012, where Liu was a guest panelist. GSU will be co-hosting an October 17 event titled "Comparative Perspectives on Global Legal Issues," with GSU Prof. Eric Segall from the Law School and Prof. Robert Howard from the Political Science department as guest speakers and Provost Palm offering welcoming remarks. The event is bringing high-level judges to Atlanta for five days of workshops and sessions.
In addition to discussing how OII can help support this and future events, Consul Gerschenfeld also offered to establish a connection between GSU and the Academic Secretary of the School of Economic Sciences at the Universidad del Salvador. Currently, GSU offers two Maymester faculty-led study abroad programs (through the departments of Biology and Psychology), in addition to a rotating-location summer study abroad program through the College of Business. This meeting has the potential to create a spark that will ignite numerous partnership opportunities throughout Argentina.
