Georgia State is well on its way to implementing its newly adopted strategic plan which covers the years 2011-2016/21. With Goal 5 of the plan GSU will achieve distinction in globalizing the university. That goal is of direct relevance to the Office of International Initiatives.
OII has undertaken a strategic planning process to give focus to major initiatives, strategies and issues related to Goal 5. We also want to integrate the globalization initiative with other elements of the university's strategic plan. Over the past two months we have met in retreat to develop the plan. We have also used the retreats to build teamwork among the several units that constitute OII.
The planning sessions have been ably led by Dr. Ken Burnhardt, Special Assistant to the Dean, Regents' Professor, and Taylor E. Little, Jr. Professor of Marketing in the Robinson College of Business. The first strategic planning session was held on September 7th. We completed a SWOT analysis and began to identify broad goals and potential initiatives using a matrix where we ranked their impact/importance and identified the degree of difficulty associated with each of them. The second retreat was held on October 18th where we further refined those goals and initiatives. A final session will be held before the end of the semester to put the finishing touches on the plan. We expect to identify 3 - 5 major goals that OII will pursue over the next 18 months and a set of initiatives to address each of them. We have enjoyed the process and are excited about the prospect of having a clear plan to guide our work. Look for the strategic plan to be posted on this web site once it is completed
