Decision Support Services (DSS)

 

Decision Support Services provides information to University decision makers about our applicants, students, staff, faculty, and operational units, including academic departments and colleges, as well as administrative and support areas.  This information is obtained directly from the university's transactional systems (e.g., BANNER and PeopleSoft) and/or from the university's data warehouse (a repository of data merged and aggregated from various sources).   DSS has two teams that respond to requests for information and services:

 

·         Crystal Reporting Services.  This team creates and modifies reports run primarily from the student information system (BANNER) based on requests from the campus community.   The CEADMIN  team manages and administers a development and runtime suite of two applications, Crystal Reports and Infoview (Business Objects Enterprise).  The team also provides support to university members who want to produce their own customized Crystal reports.

·         IE-Data Warehouse.  This team is responsible for designing and loading a central data repository (i.e., Data Warehouse).  The university's transactional systems are the main source for the data in this repository.  The data are constructed to generate university key performance indicators (KPIs) over time.  This team also provides an interface, IPort (formerly Statware), that sits on top of the warehouse.  The interface offers point and click, drill down navigation to examine the KPIs across multiple dimensions.  The Warehouse also contains the College Data Mart that provides information on faculty, staff, students, courses, academic programs, as well as financial data for individual colleges and departments.
