Incept FAQ's

Attending Incept

Am I required to attend Incept?

All new freshman students are required to attend Incept. New transfer students are not required to attend, but attendance is strongly encouraged. At Incept, all students will receive academic advisement and register for classes, both very important to the new student transition process.

Does financial aid (i.e. HOPE, FAFSA) or student loans cover Incept fees?

No. The Incept fee is a user fee that is not covered by any type of scholarship and/or loan. There is no Incept fee waiver. To attend Incept, all Incept fees must be paid in advance.

Do I have to stay for the entire Incept day(s)?

Yes. All components of the Incept program are important with valuable information being shared throughout the day. In addition, academic advisement and class registration will be at the end of each Incept program.

If I have to leave Incept early can I receive academic advisement and register for classes earlier in the Incept day?

No. Each Incept format has a conference schedule and no adjustments will be made in the schedule, which includes moving any session earlier.

What if I cannot attend Incept?

Any freshman who is unable to attend an Incept conference must register for GSU 1010. The GSU 1010 course provides students with essential information about the academic demands of the University, its rules, procedures, resources, and academic, social, and personal “survival skills” that contribute to academic success. The course curriculum encourages students to establish supportive relationships with peers and faculty and to become an integral part of the academic community.

Do parents have to attend Incept?

No. However, parents are strongly encouraged to attend Incept. There is a special parent/guest program during each student Incept day.

Can a parent/guest attend Incept in place of their student?

No. Parents and guests have to attend Incept with their student and cannot attend in place of their student. Also, parents and guests must attend the same Incept that their student is registered for.

Can I change my Incept date?

Yes. To change your Incept date, call the Office of New Student Orientation and Parent Relations at 404/413-1570 and request a change. All changes must be made three full business days before your scheduled conference. Also, you may not change your Incept date to any conference which is currently filled.

Withdrawing from Incept

When should I withdraw from a scheduled and paid for Incept conference?

If you would like to withdraw from Incept completely, you can log back onto your PAWS account and click withdraw. NOTE: Withdrawing from Incept is only recommended for those students who do not intend to attend Georgia State University. To change your Incept date, you should contact the Office of New Student Orientation and Parent Relations at 404/413-1570.

If I withdraw from Incept, how will my money be refunded to me?

If you completely withdraw from Incept, you will complete the withdrawal process described above. To receive a refund after registering for an Incept conference, you must withdraw or cancel your registration at least three full business days prior to your scheduled conference date in order to be eligible for a refund.

If you meet the three day withdrawal deadline, the refund will be credited to your student account. The money will not be credited back to your credit card or bank account. This refund money will remain on your student account and be applied to any outstanding fees you may have when tuition and fees are due each enrollment cycle. If your tuition and fees are covered completely by other funds, the Incept refund will be mailed to your address on file when the Office of Student Accounts distributes refund checks each enrollment cycle.

However, if you withdraw from Incept and do not attend Georgia State University, the Incept refund will be mailed to your address of file when the Office of Student Accounts distributes refund checks each enrollment cycle.

If you withdraw or cancel less than three full business days prior to your scheduled conference date, there is NO refund. There are NO partial refunds. If you register for another Incept conference date, you will need to pay the full registration fee again.

What if I mistakenly withdraw from an Incept conference when I only meant to change my Incept day?

If you mistakenly withdraw from a conference and still want to attend Incept and Georgia State University, please call the Office of New Student Orientation and Parent Relations at 404/413-1570.

What if I miss my scheduled Incept day?

If you miss your Incept day and you did not alert the Office of New Student Orientation and Parent Relations of your expected absence within three full business days of your scheduled conference, you will have to register again for the next available Incept conference and pay all registration fees required to attend that conference. No money will be refunded back or counted towards a new conference date. Again, arrangements must be made at least three full business days prior to your originally scheduled conference date.
