The Child Development Program
The Child Development Program, a part of the College of Education, is comprised of two locations, the Lanette L. Suttles Child Development Center and the Capitol Hill Child Enrichment Center. The center offers childcare services for children aged 3 months through 4 years. The centers play an important role in University research efforts, supports teacher education programs, offers an ideal setting for students from a variety of disciplines to learn about young children through observation, interaction and research, and provides a model of “best practice” for Georgia’s early learning professionals at all levels of the professional ladder.

Project SCEIs Babies Can't Wait
The goal of the Georgia State University Skilled, Credentialed Early Interventionists (SCEIs) project with Georgia's Babies Can't Wait program is to assist in the implementation and evaluation of preservice and in-service training provided to public and private providers of early intervention services as well as to families who have children in the Babies Can't Wait program. The Babies Can't Wait program provides services for infants and toddlers who have developmental delays or disabilities and their families. This project is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Human Resources.

Speech-Language Evaluations
Evaluations are scheduled in three hour blocks of time. Evaluations are thorough in-depth sessions designed to describe a person’s communication difficulty. Evaluations are available for children and adult clients of all ages. Evaluations are scheduled during Fall and Spring semesters. There are a limited number of appointments and clients should be aware that you may not be scheduled for an evaluation during the same semester you request services.The cost of a speech-language evaluation is $100 and a sliding fee scale is available to those who require financial assistance. Georgia State students, staff and faculty are not charged for speech-language evaluations. There are charges for services provided to children and family members of Georgia State students, faculty and staff.
Speech-Language-Hearing Screenings
Screenings take approximately 20-30 minutes. Screenings are scheduled during Fall and Spring semesters only. There is a $10 fee for screenings conducted on-campus and a $15 fee for screenings conducted at off-campus locations. Georgia State student, faculty and staff are not charged for speech-language-hearing screenings. There are charges for services provided to children and family members of Georgia State students, faculty and staff.
Hearing Evaluations
Hearing evaluations are scheduled in one-hour blocks of time. The evaluation thoroughly tests the structure and functions of the ears. Evaluations are scheduled during Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. There are a limited number of appointments and clients should be aware that you may not be scheduled for an evaluation during the same semester you request services. The cost of a hearing evaluation is $50. Georgia State student, faculty and staff are not charged for hearing evaluations. There are charges for services provided to children and family members of Georgia State students, faculty and staff.
Hearing Screenings
Hearing screenings are scheduled in 30-minute blocks of time. This screening is used to determine if an individual is at risk for a hearing loss and would benefit from a complete evaluation. The cost of a hearing screening held on-campus is $10. Off-campus hearing screenings are typically performed in conjunction with a speech-language screening. Georgia State student, faculty and staff are not charged for screenings. There are charges for services provided to children and family members of Georgia State students, faculty and staff.
Speech-Language Therapy
Speech and language therapy is available for children and adult clients of all ages. Services are offered for clients who have a variety of speech and language disorders. Therapy sessions are scheduled twice per week for most clients. Personalized therapy goals are developed for each client in conjunction with the client, client’s family and clinical supervisor. Each therapy room is equipped with a large two way mirror for observation of clients during therapy. Georgia State student, faculty and staff are not charged for therapy services. There are charges for services provided to children and family members of Georgia State students, faculty and staff.

The mission of the Urban Literacy Clinic at Georgia State University is to prepare teachers to enrich the literacy lives of students in the Atlanta community through individual and small group lessons in reading and writing. The teachers prepare and implement research based literacy lessons designed to capitalize upon each child's literacy interests while strengthening their academic abilities. The clinic is serving 180 children, ages 5 to 18, four days each week. Sessions are also offered during the fall and spring semesters.

Atlanta Brain Bee
This annual brain trivia competition held in late January for metro Atlanta high school students consists of written and oral rounds of neuroscience questions. The winner of the Atlanta Brain Bee goes on to compete for top prize in the International Brain Bee in March at the University of Maryland. Advanced registration required. Georgia Science Olympiad
Program is designed to enhance science education and interest in science. It’s a science competition for teams of up to 15 students competing in 23 different age related events over the course of the day. Grade-related activities (K-2; 3-5; 6-9; 9-12) spanning all areas of science. Activities emphasize doing and applying science.

Panther Baseball Spring Training Camp
The Greg Frady Baseball Camps are comprehensive programs offering young players improvement in their skill level. The programs are based on criteria set up by the NCAA with emphasis placed on complying with all guidelines set by the Georgia State University athletic compliance office. Camp priorities are to provide each camper with a safe and fun environment. The most important priority of the program is to teach the fundamentals of baseball in a manner that all campers retain. The program is also a vehicle for developing a greater awareness of Georgia State athletics and the educational institution. Enrollment fees apply.

Brain Camp
Week-long, full-day, hands-on, neuroscience-themed camp. Partnered with the City Schools of Decatur and the camp is held at Renfroe Middle School. Camp curriculum is designed around the 7th grade Life Science Georgia Performance Standards. Lessons and activities include sheep brain and mammalian eye dissections, sensory system experiments, learning about brain nutrition and health, brain diseases and disorders, how you learn and make memories, how neurons work, etc. Camp session usually held during the third or forth week in July.

Institute on Neuroscience (ION)
It is an eight-week summer program for exceptional high school students. The aim of the program is to develop their skills in problem solving, critical thinking, hypothesis formation, laboratory experimentation, and scientific communication. ION students participate in an intense basic neuroscience curriculum, which is enhanced by hands-on activities (three week orientation component of the program). Typically ION accepts 10-20 students from metro-Atlanta each summer.

Saturday School for Scholars and Leaders
Georgia State University's Saturday School for Scholars and Leaders has been providing educational opportunities for the enrichment and encouragement of gifted and talented children since 1975! Each session, Atlanta area educators teach a variety of enrichment classes, ranging from the fine and applied arts to math and science, designed to challenge participants at all levels (K- 8th grade). Our students represent a diverse cross section of the metro-Atlanta community, coming from home schooling, private, and public schools experiences. DREAMS: Relationships to Enhance African-American Mentees’ Success - Jegna Brotherhood/Ananse Aya Sisterhood
Designed to engage male high school students in activities that develop social competency, increase self-understanding and positive images in high school students, and to increase the likelihood of the participants’ future engagement of other students in positive, healthy mentoring relationships. A dissertation research project that engages young high school males and females in group activities that are intended to build effective leadership skills to enhance their positive coping strategies, expand upon their knowledge of education and economic opportunities, and increase their cultural awareness.

One-on-one partnerships, facilitated by college students that are uniquely designed to develop literacy, language, and social skills of pre-school children.

Cosmic Ray Measurement
Student/teacher groups from the middle and high schools in the state of Georgia participate in a large-scale cosmic muon measurement project led by the nuclear physics group at Georgia State University. The main goad of this project is to measure high energy cosmic rays in large scale and promote advanced science projects in K-12 schools in Georgia.

Early College Initiative with the Carver Early College
Students are given the opportunity to experience college during their junior year of high school. This program enables high school students to graduate with a high school diploma and 60 college credits simultaneously. The student will take up to four classes per semester. The early college model is designed to increase the number of underrepresented students in post-secondary education, such as minorities, English as a second language and low-income students.

Whether you want to learn how to swim, get some exercise or just have fun, you will find something that meets your needs. All of the instructors are certified to teach swimming through the American Red Cross and are certified lifeguards through the American Red Cross. Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., 30-minute sessions are conducted by an admissions counselor from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. HeLP Legal Services Clinic/College of Law
The HeLP Legal Services Clinic is a live-client clinic located at Georgia State University’s College of Law. The clinic is part of an innovative medical-legal community collaboration known as the Health Law Partnership (HeLP), whose non-profit partners are the Center, the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Inc. HeLP provides free, direct legal services to low-income children and their families at on-site legal services clinics located at two of Children’s hospitals and at the in-house clinic at the law school.

The Clinic has been operating since 1992 as a nationally recognized component of the College's lawyer skills training program. Health and Wellness Collaborative Annual Flu Shot and TB Testing
Annual Flu Shot
This program provides annual flu shots given by Georgia State's Health and Wellness Nursing Collaborative and students of the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing. For a fee, nursing students with faculty supervision and faculty administer flu vaccine to any member of the Georgia State community 18 years or older. All persons read and sign a consent prior to vaccine administration.
TB Testing
This program provides ppd's for those needing TB testing. They are given by Georgia State's Health and Wellness Nursing Collaborative and students of the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing. For a fee, nursing faculty and supervised nursing students administer ppd's to any member of the Georgia State community 18 years or older.

Faculty, staff, Georgia State University graduates and their immediate family members may join for a fee payable on a semester or annual basis. Gerontology Institute Annual Health Fair for Seniors (50+)
An annual event that offers free screenings for bone density, blood pressure, cholesterol / glucose, posture and strength, vestibular and balance, as well as pulmonary evaluation. Each year during the spring semester, North Fulton Regional Hospital and the Gerontology Institute, along with the Georgia State Alpharetta campus staff, partner to make this community service event happen.

Gerontology Institute Health Fair for Seniors
The Gerontology Institute is engaged in the study of aging and charged with the responsibility of developing and coordinating research, instruction, and service in gerontology throughout the university. The Institute offers a MA degree in gerontology and gerontology certificates for both undergraduate and graduate Students. Project Healthy Grandparents (sponsored by Georgia State College of Health and Human Sciences)
Project Healthy Grandparents (PHG) provides support services to families with children 16 years of age or under in which grandparents are raising grandchildren in the absence of their birth parents. They serve families in south DeKalb county, south Fulton county, and city of Atlanta.
Services offered by Project Healthy Grandparents include social work case management services, health care services, grandparent support group meetings, early intervention services for grandchildren 0 - 5 years old, and legal assistance referrals.
