University Commons Information
University Commons, one of the largest residence halls under construction in the country, will open it doors at Georgia State University in August 2007.
The Commons, a 4.2-acre complex of four apartment buildings ranging from 8 to 15 stories will house approximately 2,000 Georgia State University students, primarily freshmen, with designated space for upperclass students. Georgia State University students will have the option of choosing a private single room in either a two or four bedroom apartment style unit.
All units come with fully-equipped kitchens and furnished bedrooms and living area spaces. Each individual private bedroom will be wired for high speed Ethernet internet connections , voice and cable T.V. services. ADA-accessible apartments are also available. In addition, each floor design includes a study/community lounge space and each building has a fully equipped laundry facility. Large state-of-the-art multi-purpose conference rooms capable of hosting seminars, meetings, programming and other academic initiatives are centrally located and accessible to all residents. Wireless connections will be provided throughout the complex including in common areas and community lounges.
Security for University Commons residents has been given the highest priority. A Georgia State University Police substation is strategically positioned at the entrance of this gated community and will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for immediate response to student and staff needs. Other security features include emergency call systems in the courtyard and parking areas as well as card key access control at all main vehicle and pedestrian entrances.
Other amenities include a U.S. mail distribution center, retail food services, and 786 covered parking spaces. University Commons will also be the new location for Georgia State University Student Health Clinic.
University Housing will began accepting applications on-line for the 2007/2008 academic year in mid-January 2007.
