University Housing

Mail Room

A U.S. mailroom is centrally located in each residential complex and is accessible 24 hours a day for checking your mailbox. Each resident is assigned a private mailbox and must check their mailbox daily. This mailbox is the way that the University Housing Office and Georgia State University staff communicates with all residents. The mailroom also provides a package pickup service during its hours of operation. Package pick-up hours are posted on the mailroom door. If you have a package in the mailroom, a package pickup slip will be placed in your mailbox. You must bring this slip and a picture ID and sign for your package. Packages not claimed within one week are subject to being returned to sender.

Mail is distributed by 5:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Even if you receive most of your mail at another address, check your mailbox weekly. Many important notices, disciplinary letters, and the monthly newsletter are distributed through the mailboxes. You are responsible for reading all information placed in your mailbox.

A full service US Post Office is available on Georgia State University's campus in Kell Hall.

There is an inter-complex mail drop for mail you wish to send to another resident of the complex.

There is also a drop box for misdirected mail that is placed in your mailbox by mistake.

To ensure proper delivery of your mail, all mail you receive must be addressed in the following manner:

YOUR NAME
Georgia State University Commons
141 Piedmont Avenue NW, Suite XXXX (this is your four-digit mailbox number)
Atlanta, GA 30303

Or,

YOUR NAME
Georgia State University Lofts
135 Edgewood Avenue, Suite XXXX (this is your four-digit mailbox number)
Atlanta, GA 30303

Incorrectly addressed mail will be delayed or may be undeliverable.

All Georgia State University-related items (grades, registration info, etc.) are mailed to the address listed in the BANNER system. If you wish to receive Georgia State University-related mail, you must change your official address on the computer in the BANNER lab across from the Registrar's Office in Sparks Hall.

Corporate vendors and other persons often solicit information about Georgia State University students from the Registrar. The Registrar is legally allowed to share any Adirectory@ information with the public. Whatever address and phone number you have on BANNER is a public record. If you would prefer this information not be shared, submit in writing a request or complete a suppress form in the Registrar's Office, 227 Sparks Hall.

Only current University Housing residents may receive mail at the Georgia State University residence halls - all other mail will be forwarded, returned to sender, or discarded.  When you move-out of the Georgia State University residence halls, your mail will be forwarded for two months to the address you submit or until the forwarding labels that you provide run out.

Please complete the following steps to ensure you receive your mail:

  1. Call your bank, credit cards, magazine subscriptions, phone company, etc. and give them your new address.

  2. Complete the mail forwarding forms and a set of labels at the residence hall mailroom window. These will be used to forward your mail. Once they have run out, all mail will be returned to sender.

Because forwarded mail must be processed through the United States Post Office as well as University Housing's mail room, your mail can take up to 8 weeks to reach your new address. Bulk rate and nonprofit mail cannot be forwarded.
