Living-Learning Communities

Living-Learning Communities offer a dedicated and distinctive themed living option to our residents. They maintain a genuine sense of community and they are supported by programs, conversations and faculty interaction centered on the member's interest. All the Living - Learning Communities are carefully planned and supported by University Housing staff along with the members of the community. Since all the members share interest in their community's theme, you can expect to build genuine relationships and life-long friends.

Steps to apply:

  1. When you get to this page, you will need to create an account for the first time.
    *If you have already created an account and are in the system, you can just log in and complete the application. 
  2. You will receive an email with a link to activate your account.
  3. Once you activate your account, you will then receive an email with your username and password.
  4. **If you don’t see an email from eRezLife in your inbox, check your junk mail folder.
  5. Once you have your username and password, you can log in and officially begin the application process.
  6. You will only have to create an account one time. Do not create multiple accounts. (You can use this same account to apply for other University Housing jobs posted as well.)
  7. When the LLC Application is available, it will be listed under Job Postings. The application is typically available in the Spring for the upcoming academic year.
  8. Be sure to completely fill out the application and select your preferred LLC.  

Living-Learning Communities 2013 - 2014

1. Exploring Leadership, Commons A: Floor 14
The Exploring Leadership Community is for first and/or second year students and is a first step toward becoming a student leader at Georgia State. Exploring Leadership is designed to enhance leadership skills and potential; foster interpersonal, social, ethical and moral development; and instill an attitude of social awareness and responsibility. Leadership experience is not a pre-requisite for this community.   This LLC is open to anyone interested in the topic of leadership.  We do encourage students in the Emerging Leader FLCs to join this floor to further enhance their leadership skills.

2. Exploring Life in the Big City: Atlanta-Based Learning, Commons A: Floor 10
Explore the culture and community of GSU's campus: Atlanta! Through activities such as walking tours, site visits, panel discussions and civic engagement, students will explore urban, community and social issues in Atlanta while making connections to their academic courses and their own life experiences. We will also incorporate sights and sounds that Atlanta has to offer to increase appreciation for arts and culture in our surrounding community. This LLC is open to anyone interested in the topic. However, we strongly encourage students in the Atlanta-Based Learning FLCs to join this floor to enhance their experience in using Atlanta as an urban classroom.

3. Honors, Commons A: Floors 11-12
Georgia State University's Honors Program offers high-achieving and highly motivated students the resources to excel academically and to prepare for successful professional careers. Honors students have access to individualized advisement, small classes and seminars, priority registration, and special housing in the University Commons. The Honors Program is open to incoming freshmen, transfer students, and current Georgia State students who meet the criteria for admission.  This LLC is open only to those students approved for the Honors Program at Georgia State University.  If you are not sure if you are in the Honors Program, please indicate your interest on your housing application and we will forward names to the staff in the Honors Office.

4. Pre-Nursing, Commons A: Floor 8
This Living-Learning Community (LLC) is designed for students interested in a career in Nursing. Students will examine issues relevant to nurses and nursing as a career. Staff will collaborate with Nursing faculty and professionals to provide an overview of issues relevant to nursing education, practice, roles and responsibilities. This LLC is open to anyone, especially those interested in the field of Nursing and those students in the Pre-Nursing FLC.

5. STEM, Commons A: Floor 8
The STEM Living-Learning Community will introduce you to the many careers that exist in STEM and strategies to approach these careers.  It will also provide you with support for your first year in a STEM major.  Not sure about what major you'd like to pursue, but interested in science and math? The STEM LLC is still for you! The common courses that students take in the STEM LLC are general education courses that can be used in any STEM or other major.  However, many will be enrolled in Biology I or Chemistry I. This LLC is open to anyone interested in the sciences or math. We do encourage those students in FLCs with related topics to join our community.

6. SAIL, Commons A: Floor 13
The SAIL Community combines services, programs, and curricular and co-curricular activities which encourage a solid transition for sophomore students to achieve junior status and their future educational and career aspirations. SAIL offers a foundation to explore the specific academic experiences and opportunities Georgia State University has to offer which addresses the needs of sophomores and provides appropriate services and programs that promotes success. All students participating in SAIL are required to take CPS 2500 (Career Development and Life Planning). The SAIL community is offered to rising sophomores for the upcoming academic year.

7. Outdoor Adventure, Commons A: Floor 9
The Outdoor Adventure! Community is designed to provide opportunities for interested residents to connect with nature and outdoor activities. Students will participate in a variety of outdoor trips such as hiking, whitewater rafting or horseback riding. This community is open to any student living on campus.

8. Beit al-Arabiya - Arabic House, Commons A: Floor 7
Beit al-Arabiya provides an immersive environment for Arabic language and culture. This Living Learning Community provides you with the opportunity to spend time with a native Arabic speaking scholar, a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant. Residents in the program and their colleagues enrolled in Arabic language courses will have numerous opportunities to interact in an Arabic speaking environment. This community is one of the very few language LLCs of its kind offered in the nation, and students who participate in it will gain insight into the language and culture that a classroom is unable to provide. 

9. Global Living, Commons A: Floor 7
This LLC is specially designed for International Students, Global Studies and language majors, participants in the Study Abroad Program, and students who just love to travel and learn about the world we live in. This cross-cultural experience offers special programs, social activities, and interactions through which residents can make friends with people from all over the world while learning about their cultures. The challenges, joys, and opportunities of becoming a global citizen are explored and celebrated. Join in on the adventure!
