Central Office Staff
The University Housing Central Office is comprised of dedicated professional, support and student staff members who are responsible for providing residential living programs and coordinating all services for resident students. The Central Office is located in Suite 250 of the Student Center (corner of Gilmer and Courtland).
Marilyn Tyus
Director of University Housing | E-mail
Marilyn is the Director of University Housing. She has 17 years of experience in residential housing as well as several years of experience in protective social services. Marilyn received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics with emphasis in Business from the University of Missouri Columbia. She received her Master of Arts in Psychological Counseling from Southeast Missouri State University and her Master of Science of Education in Student Personnel from Illinois State University. Marilyn is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in Educational Organization and Leadership
At Georgia State University, Marilyn currently serves on the University Crisis Team, the Alcohol and Drug Intervention committee; the Safety and Security committee; the University Avian Flu committee and the Enrollment Management Group. Her professional affiliations are with the American Educational Research Association (AREA); the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).

Bob has over 16 years of housing experience and specializes in student retention programs for University Housing residents. Creating residential programs that provide leadership development, teach personal management of resources, achieve academic success, and coach for career preparation is what he enjoys most about working at GSU. Bob is a graduate of The University of West Florida with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering Technology and an MBA. At Georgia State University, Bob currently serves on the University Crisis Team; the Alcohol and Drug Intervention committee; the Safety and Security committee; and the Enrollment Management Group. His professional affiliations are with the Georgia Housing Officers (GHO); the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO); and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
Larry Uphoff

Larry has 20 years of experience in housing maintenance, as well as experience in construction and construction methods. Larry received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and his Master of Science in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Illinois State University.
Sharon German
Business Manager III | E-mail
Sharon German is Business Manager III for University Housing. She has 10 years of budget and financial experience at Georgia State University. Sharon received a Bachelor of Arts from Spelman College, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University and she will receive her Masters of Business Administration in the summer of 2007 from Southern Polytechnic University.
At Georgia State University, Sharon serves as a member on the University’s staff council and is an inducted member of the National Residence Hall Honorary. Her professional affiliations are with the National and Southern Association of College and University Business Officers and the National and Southern Association of Auxiliary Services.
Roderick Padilla

Rod is a 16-year IT veteran at Georgia State University who oversees the operation of all University Housing Information Services & Technology . Rod has more than 25 years of Information Technology and state-of-the art systems experience in academia and private industry. He speaks and writes fluently in both English and Spanish and works closely with the Latino community in Georgia. Hobbies include ham radio, baseball, soccer and music.
Jaray Gillespie
Judicial Affairs Advisor II-Judicial Affairs | E-mail
Jaray works for the Dean of Students and adjudicates student code of conduct violations occurring in the residence halls. She has worked in higher education for 10 years in various departments including University Housing, Educational Opportunity Programs, and Multiethnic Student Services. Jaray received her Bachelor of Arts in English from William Paterson University in New Jersey and her Masters of Education (Post-Secondary Education concentration) from Salisbury University in Maryland.
Jennifer Harris

Jennifer is the Accountant for University Housing. Jennifer received her Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Management from Georgia State University in May 2005.
Traci Wilson
Administrative Coordinator | E-mail
Traci, a native of Fairfax, Virginia, is the Senior Administrative Coordinator. She has 5 years of experience in residential housing. Traci received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with emphasis in Public Relations and a minor in English from Georgia State University. She is currently pursuing her Master of Public Administration from Troy University in Atlanta in Human Resource Management.
At Georgia State University, Traci currently serves on the National Residence Hall Honorary and is a 2003 recipient of the Georgia State University Outstanding Student Leadership Award. She is active in community service at her church and in her sorority.
