University Housing

Central Office Staff

The University Housing Central Office is comprised of dedicated professional, support and student staff members who are responsible for providing residential living programs and coordinating all services for resident students.  The Central Office is located in Suite 250 of the Student Center (corner of Gilmer and Courtland).

 

Marilyn De LaRoche

Director of University Housing | E-mail

Marilyn is the Director of University Housing. She has over 17 years of experience in residential housing as well as several years of experience in protective social services. Marilyn received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics with emphasis in Business from the University of Missouri Columbia. She received her Master of Arts in Psychological Counseling from Southeast Missouri State University and her Master of Science of Education in Student Personnel from Illinois State University. Marilyn is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in Educational Organization and Leadership

At Georgia State University, Marilyn currently serves on the University Crisis Team, the Alcohol and Drug Intervention committee; the Safety and Security committee; the University Avian Flu committee and the Enrollment Management Group. Her professional affiliations are with the American Educational Research Association (AREA); the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).

 

Dr. Mylon Kirksy

Associate Director of University Housing-Residence Life | E-mail 

Dr. Mylon Kirksy is the Associate Director of University Housing for Residence Life.  He has over 10 years of professional experience in student affairs, residence life, and housing services.  Mylon received his Bachelors of Science in Political Science and Public Relations from Illinois State University in Normal, IL.  He received his Masters of Communication and Information Studies in Organizational Communication from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.  His Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Leadership and Administration was received from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA.

 

Dr. Kirksy's areas of expertise are in student learning and organizational research, assessment, and evaluation.  His professional affiliations are with the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).  In 2007, Dr. Kirksy received the NASPA Region VI Mid-level Professional Award.

 

Shannon Corey

Assistant Director for Community and Staff Development | E-mail

Shannon has worked in Housing and Residence Life for over 8 years.  Through programming, training and development, she enjoys seeing the impact they all have on both students and staff at GSU. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Mathematics Education from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from Old Dominion University.  Shannon is professionally affiliated with Georgia Housing Officers (GHO), Southeastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO), Association of College and University Housing Officers - International (ACUHO-I) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).

 

Larry Uphoff

Associate Director - Operations | E-mail

Larry is the Associate Director of Operations for University housing. He has 35 years of experience in housing maintenance, construction methods, facility management and project development. Larry received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and his Master of Science in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Illinois State University. At Georgia State University, Larry is responsible for administering and directing all activities associated with the operations of the Department of University Housing. He recommends facility improvements and participates in developing short and long term goals for maintaining and improving the physical facilities. He manages all residential buildings at GSU's University Commons, University Lofts, Freshman Hall and the upcoming special interest housing. Larry was involved in the construction of the University Commons, Freshman Hall and he is actively involved in the construction of Special Interest Housing. He is professionally associated with Golden Key International Honor Society, and the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA).

 

Sharon German

Assistant Director for Business Services and Financial Operations | E-mail

Sharon German is Assistant Director for Business Services and Financial Operations for University Housing. She has 10 years of budget and financial experience at Georgia State University. Sharon received a Bachelor of Arts from Spelman College, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University and a Masters of Business Administration from Southern Polytechnic University.

At Georgia State University, Sharon serves as a member on the University’s staff council and is an inducted member of the National Residence Hall Honorary. Her professional affiliations are with the National and Southern Association of College and University Business Officers and the National and Southern Association of Auxiliary Services.

 

Roderick Padilla 

Assistant Director for IT Services | E-mail

Rod is a 20-year IT veteran at Georgia State University who oversees the operation of all University Housing Information Services & Technology . Rod has more than 25 years of Information Technology and state-of-the art systems experience in academia and private industry.  He speaks and writes fluently in both English and Spanish and works closely with the Latino community in Georgia.  Hobbies include ham radio, baseball, soccer and music.

 

Ty Hill

Coordinator for Conference and Program Services | E-mail

Ty is originally from Chicago, Illinois. She attended Iowa State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Forensic & Cultural Anthropology. She received her Master of Business Administration from American InterContinental University here in Atlanta, Georgia. Ty has worked in the hospitality industry for 11 years as a wedding, events, and conference planner.

 

Marlon Gibson

Judicial Affairs Advisor II-Judicial Affairs | E-mail

Marlon works for the Dean of Students and adjudicates student code of conduct violations occurring in the residence halls. He has worked in higher education for over 6 years years in various departments including University Housing and Residence Life,Fraternity and Sorority Life, and most recently Student Life and Leadership. Marlon received his Bachelor of Arts in English,Creative Writing from The University of Toledo and his Masters of Education (Higher Education concentration) from The University of Toledo.
