Honors Administration
Dr. Robert Sattelmeyer, Director of the Honors Program
Dr. Sattelmeyer is a Regents Professor of English. His scholarly field is 19th-century American literature, especially Thoreau, Emerson and Transcendentalism. His most recent project has been co-editing a three-volume encyclopedia of American History through Literature, (Scribners, 2006). Dr. Sattelmeyer is also active in promoting study abroad and student exchanges, and has coordinated international programs for the College of Arts & Sciences.
Dr. Jeffrey Young, Associate Director of the Honors Program
Dr. Young is a Lecturer in the Honors Program. He received his B.A. from Yale University in 1989 and his Ph.D. in American history from Emory University in 1996. His research has focused on race, slavery, and family life in the American South. In 1999, the University of North Carolina Press published his monograph, Domesticating Slavery: The Master Class in Georgia and South Carolina, and in 2006 the University of South Carolina Press published his anthology, Proslavery and Sectional Thought in the Early South. Before joining the Honors Program faculty, he taught at Georgia Southern University and Emory University.
Ms. April Lawhorn, Honors Program Academic Specialist
Ms. Lawhorn acts as the Program advisor, interviews new students, coordinates the Honors Council meetings as well as the yearly College of Arts and Sciences Honors Day. April is also responsible for coordinating the Honors Freshman Learning Community. She can assist students in solving academic, procedural and policy problems. April comes to this position with a counseling, academic advising and student personnel development background.
Mr. Greg Chisholm, Administrative Coordinator for Honors Scholarship Programs
Mr. Chisholm came to Georgia State in 2003. He received his B.A. from Furman University with a major in Spanish in 1991. Before he began working with Undergraduate Studies, he was involved with after-school education for Atlanta inner-city public school students. His responsibilities at Georgia State range from coordinating programs for Honors scholarship recipients to enhancing the quality of residential life experience for Honors students.
Ms. Heather Bond, Administrative Coordinator of the Honors Program
Ms. Bond manages the daily operations and finances of the office. She can assist students with program requirements, general Honors Program information and frequently used forms. Ms. Bond has worked at the university for two years as a GTA and is an Honors Program alumni. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Renaissance literature.
