pcAnywhere Documentation
Effective February 15, 2006, remote access to pcAnywhere hosts on campus has been blocked unless the remote user is using the campus Virtual Private Network (VPN).
The reasons for these actions are two-fold:
-
We are starting to see targeted attacks coming into the Georgia State’s network that are directed towards systems with pcAnywhere installed
- Using the campus VPN prior to initiating your pcAnywhere remote session adds another necessary layer of security, in that it effectively blocks your PC off from external sources and offers a secure encrypted 'tunnel' into the Georgia State’s network from your remote PC.
The approved VPN client is the Cisco VPN client. You can obtain the Cisco VPN client for Windows operating systems Here.
**Symantec pcAnywhere 11.5 does not support the Mac operating system. **
Other prerequisites before using pcAnywhere:
- Contact your local support personnel before downloading pcAnywhere because it might conflict with policies or procedures within your department.
- Ensure workstation is in Compliance with University Policies.
- Understand the difference between host and remote computers.
- Know “Host” computer name.
Once these requirements are satisfied, please access the pcAnywhere Documentation for installation instructions.
