1. What is PantherMail?

Georgia State University is pleased to offer our students a new email system called PantherMail. PantherMail is based on Microsoft’s new Live@edu email and collaboration environment and offers a range of new features including a 10 GB email inbox, 20 MB attachments and document collaboration.

2. How do I access PantherMail?

The first time you access PantherMail, you’ll need to follow our Getting Started. This will give you step-by-step instructions on setting up and accessing your PantherMail.

Login - Your login id will be your CampusID@student.gsu.edu. You should be using the “Sign In” button to login to your PantherMail, not sign up (example: jsmith1)

Initial Password - initial password will be your panther number, located on your PantherCard.

To access PantherMail again, just visit https://www.student.gsu.edu/ and click Launch PantherMail.

Login - Your login id will be will be your CampusID@student.gsu.edu. You should be using the “Sign In” button to login to your PantherMail, not sign up.

Password – the password that was created during the initial login to PantherMail.

 

3. How do I change my PantherMail password, after the initial setup?

  • Go to https://www.student.gsu.edu/
  • Click Student E-mail Login
  • Click Sign in
  • Sign in using your student email address and password
  • Click on you name (ex. Lisa), located above the sign out link
  • Click View your account
  • Under Password reset information, on the Password line, click Change.
  • In the Change your password window, enter your old password, and then enter your new password two times.

     

4. How do I change my student email password if I have forgotten my current password?

  • Go to https://www.student.gsu.edu/
  • Click Student E-mail Login
  • Click Sign in
  • Click Forgot your password?
  • Enter your Windows live ID which is your student email address.
  • Type the characters you see in the picture, and click Continue.
  • Select an option for resetting your password, and click Continue.

Note: If you are unable to retrieve your password by email (the alternate e-mail address used in the initial set up) or reset your password by answering your security question, Please contact the Help Center at (404) 413-HELP.

 

5. How do I change my student registered information in PantherMail?

There are two ways to change student registered information in PantherMail.

Note: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 can be used to complete the processes below.

Using Launch PantherMail:

  • Log into PantherMail (other browsers are not supported right now)
  • On the blue Windows Live Home page, click Account on the right hand side of the page

    (Note: If you do not get this screen the first time, logout and sign in using the link at the top of the page, on the right hand side, and you should be able to see the blue Windows Live Home page once you are in.)

  • In middle box click Registered Information
  • Modify registered information
  • Click Save

Using login.live.com:

  • Log into login.live.com
  • On the right hand side on the page click Edit your registered information
  • Modify registered information
  • Click Save

 

6. Will my new PantherMail password sync with my CampusID password?

No. Please be aware that your PantherMail account is independent from other campus computer systems, and while you retain the same email address, the password is maintained separately. Your PantherMail password will not stay synchronized with your CampusID password. This means when you change your CampusID password it will not affect your student email password. This also means when you change your student email password, it will not affect your CampusID. Your CampusID, along with your CampusID password will continue to give you access to online systems such as GoSolar and uLearn.

 

7. How do I redirect or forward my PantherMail to another email address?

Redirect vs Forward - If you use redirect, your email will be redirected to another email address. This rule will redirect the emails as if they came directly from the original sender’s email address. If you use forward, your email will be forwarded to another email address, but you will not be able to reply to the original sender. Forwarded emails will arrive as if the original email came from the PantherMail address. Below are instructions on how to Forward and Redirect your emails. (note: The redirect and forward options are only available in Internet Explorer 7.)

How do I Redirect my PantherMail to another e-mail address?

  • Go to https://www.student.gsu.edu/
  • Click Student E-mail Login
  • Click Sign in
  • Sign in using your student email address and password.
  • Click on Mail
  • Click Options
  • Click Organize
  • Click Inbox Rules
  • Click New Rule
  • Create a New Rule for Arriving Messages
    • Clicking this option opens a new rule window without any of the criteria or actions for your new rule selected. Use the new rule window to select and define the criteria and actions for your rule. Enter a name in the Name box to name the rule. Click Save to save the rule or Cancel to cancel the rule without saving.
  • A new Rule Description panel will open
  • Click Forward or redirect and then choose Redirect the Message to people or distribution lists
  • In the left panel, now click people or distribution lists
  • An Address Book panel will open. At the bottom, in the To field, type the address you wish to have your mail redirected to.
  • Click OK
  • Click Save

How do I forward my PantherMail to another e-mail address?

  • Click on Mail 
  • Click Options
  • Click Organize

8. Does PantherMail offer junk mail and virus protection?

Yes. PantherMail offers advanced spam and virus protection. This protection only works when you’re using the web interface, however, so please take extra precautions when using an email program such as Thunderbird or Outlook to check your mail.

You need to turn on the Junk Mail filtering option in the web interface if you wish to use it. You can use the options to block senders or designate safe senders.

(Note: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is required to complete the below process.)

  • Go to https://www.student.gsu.edu/
  • Click Student E-mail Login
  • Click Sign in
  • Sign in using your student email address and password.
  • Click on Mail
  • Click Options
  • Click Security, and then select your filtering options.

9. Which Windows browsers work with PantherMail?

You may use Internet Explorer 7 and above or Firefox. While other browsers may work, they have not been as thoroughly tested. PantherMail offers two different web-based interfaces, Premium and Light. Currently, only Internet Explorer 7 and above on a Windows PC will access the Premium version. Other browsers currently display the Light version. The light version offers full functionality for sending and receiving mail, but lacks some advanced features such as Spelling Checker, additional calendar views, and optional color schemes.

    10. Can I access my PantherMail account using a Mac? Which Mac browsers work with PantherMail?

    11. Will I be able to Track Sent Messages?

    You can use the Message Tracking feature in PantherMail to get delivery status information for messages that you sent in the last 14 days. You can search and sort delivery status for items by date or subject and also see a detailed delivery report for each item that you sent.

    12. What is the Exchange Lab Server Information?

    • POP server If your program uses POP to connect, enter outlook.com
    • IMAP server If your program uses IMAP to connect, enter outlook.com
    • SMTP server To find the SMTP server name, sign in to Exchange Labs at the following address: https://outlook.com. After you sign in successfully, the address you entered will resolve to an address that contains the SMTP server name you need to use. Use the table below to find the SMTP server name. For example, if the address begins with https://bl2prd01, enter pod51000.outlook.com for the SMTP server name. 
    • Outgoing server (SMTP) port number  Enter 587 to replace the default port number, which is set to 25. 
    • SSL and TLS for encryption Select Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for incoming POP and IMAP connections. For outgoing SMTP connections, select Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption.
    • SSL and TLS are methods to help secure communications between your computer and the e-mail server. Some e-mail programs refer to SSL or TLS as "encryption". In most e-mail programs, you need to open an "Advanced" setting or tab to set SSL for POP and IMAP connections and TLS for SMTP connections. Make sure you don't confuse SSL with "authenticating connections". Some e-mail programs include a check box for setting up authentication the first time you set up your account.

     

    13. I'm unable to log out of PantherMail using Safari.

    Safari users must change their browser settings to accept all cookies.
    Safari>Preferences>Accept Cookies "ALWAYS".

     

    14. What can I do if I get "You need permission to use Microsoft online services"?

    Some Windows Live ID sites and services require that the user provide a date of birth when signing up. If an incorrect birth year is entered into “Your Information”, during initial setup, causing an age less than 18, access can be denied.

    If you need permission to use Microsoft online services you will have two options to choose from:

    Option 1 - I’m an adult. Why am I seeing this page?

    • Click on I’m an adult. Why am I seeing this page?
    • Complete the Enter your credit card section and the Type the characters you see in this picture section
    • Click Continue

    Option 2 - Get Permission Now

    Before you can sign in and use Microsoft online services, a parent needs to give permission. For parents to give or deny permission:

    • Click on Get Permission Now
    • Click Continue
    • Select Yes or No
    • Click Continue
    • Sign in to Microsoft online services, or create your own free account
    • Complete the Enter your credit card section and Type the characters you see in this picture section, on Verify that you’re an adult page
    • Click Continue
    • Click Continue, on Status verified page
    • Click Finish, on the You’ve given permission page

    Option 3 – Work around

    A work around to options 1 and 2 would be to create a free account or use an existing hotmail account to give yourself permission (the “Parent Account”). The birth year associated with the account needs to give an age of 18 or older for this to work.

    • Click on Ask by email
    • Enter your parent's email address (this is assuming that you have a hotmail or a live account set up. If you do not you must set up one, and enter your first name)
    • Click Done on new screen
    • Open a new page (Note: typing in home.live.com takes you back to the permission page)
    • Type home.live.com
    • Login to the “Parent Account” account (the account your just created or your existing account you choice to use to give yourself permission)
    • You will see an email from Microsoft customer support; click the link to grant access
    • Click continue
    • Select yes, and continue
    • Sign in and continue
    • Sign in and continue
    • Select Finish
    • You have to edit the child’s registered info from the parent account.
      • On the navigation bar, click Settings.
      • Click Family accounts.
      • Under the child's account you want to modify, click Edit.
      • Make any changes to the child's profile, and then click Save.
    • Then login to the student account.

     

    15. How do I change Student Registered Information in PantherMail?

    Student wants to change their display name, contact information, birth date, etc in PantherMail.

    Process for IE6 or IE7

    1. Create support request in student's CampusID
    2. Give student instructions on how to do this
    3. Log into PantherMail (using IE browser other browsers are not supported right now)
    4. On the blue Windows Live Home page, click Account on the right hand side of the page
    5. In middle box click Registered Information
    6. Modify registered information
    7. Close request

     

    16. Where do I get support when I have questions?

    First, visit the page https://www.student.gsu.edu/ and use the support options there - Getting Started, FAQ and How-to documents.

    If you have problems resetting your PantherMail password, please contact the Help Center at (404) 413-HELP (4357).

    For Microsoft related problems, you should use Microsoft's Web-based support located at http://support.live.com/ or http://help.outlook.com/.
