Margaret A. Quiggle
“Cloth and Memory”
2007, Dye-sublimation on polyester fabric with stained wooden rod.
58 x 30in.

The piece “Cloth and Memory” is part of a series which explores the relationship of time and memory on cloth. The main inspiration for this series is unknown family photographs. The design is created by the heat transfer dye-sublimation process. The composition of silhouettes, photographs, implied texture, and hand stitching, along with this particular type of dying, are all meant to relate the modern to the older generation, mixing old imagery and old ways with newer technology. This piece is meant to convey a sense of family, peace, and tradition.
