Libraries
Georgia State houses two libraries, University and Law. Additionally, many academic departments provide special libraries for their students. The libraries offer a variety of research tools and services, many of which can be accessed from your home or dorm room!
University Library
The University Library contains more than 1.4 million volumes, including 8,000 active serials and nearly 22,000 media materials. The library provides access to numerous electronic periodical and resource indexes (many with full text), more than 14,000 electronic journals, and about 30,000 electronic books. Additionally, the library is a Federal Document Depository and holds more than 820,000 government documents with electronic access to many additional titles.
The University Library is comprised of Library North and Library South, which are connected by a bridge on floors 3-5. Visit the University Library at 100 Decatur Street SE, Atlanta, GA, 30303-3202, on the University Plaza, or call (404) 413-2800.
College of Law Library
The College of Law Library primarily collects traditional legal materials but also hosts a collection of select non-legal materials. The library contains more than 345,000 bound or microform volumes and more than 22,000 electronic books, including American reports, statutes and legal periodicals, as well as treatises and secondary materials. These traditional print resources are augmented by extensive access to numerous electronic databases. Law librarians are available for assistance most of the library's hours. Visit the library on the first floor of the Urban Life Building at the corner of Decatur Street and Piedmont Avenue.
Alpharetta Center Library
The Alpharetta Center Library is located at the Alpharetta Center, an extended campus serving Georgia State University students, faculty and staff in the north Fulton county area. Many of the library services available at the University Library are also available at the Alpharetta Center.
Special Collections and Archives
The Special Collections Department of the Georgia State University Library collects and preserves unique and rare historical materials in selected subject areas. The department promotes the use of these materials by the Georgia State community, scholars and the public. Its goal is to advance scholarship and to further the educational, research and service missions of the university. The seven curatorial areas are: Southern Labor Archives, Popular Music Collection, Women's Collections, Georgia Government Documentation Project, University Archives, Rare Books and Photograph Collections.
