Health
Although students mainly focus on growing their minds, Georgia State wants to make sure you are also taking care of your body. These university services assist students in maintaining general mental and physical well being.
University Health Services

- Minor emergencies
- Sports medicine
- Women’s health treatment
- Health education
- Dispensing some prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications

- Laboratory tests, most of which are available at deeply discounted rates
UHS cannot treat real emergencies. If you are facing a serious emergency, call 911 and campus police at (404) 413-3333.
Counseling Center
Our primary purpose at the Counseling Center is to help the university community in efforts to enhance personal well-being, encourage professional/career satisfaction, promote learning and facilitate interpersonal relationships. University students can face a variety of changes, problems and important decisions. Typical concerns include: Managing time, choosing or changing a career, developing more satisfying relationships, increasing self-awareness, building self-confidence, resolving conflict, and dealing with change. In coping with these issues, many individuals feel stressed, confused, anxious and alienated. As a result, academic and/or professional work and personal as well as professional relationships can suffer. Working with a professional counselor can offer a constructive approach to these concerns.
The Counseling Center is located on the third floor of 106 Courtland Street NE, and can be reached at (404) 413-1640 for questions or to set up an appointment.
The Georgia State University Counseling Center provides a wide range of services to meet the emotional, educational and vocational needs of students. These services include:
- Clinical services for personal growth
- Testing for admissions and scoring of national, professional and university tests
- Life skills for academic assistance and stress management
- Psycho-educational outreach to the university
- Training for psychologists and counselors
Our Pre-doctoral Professional Psychology Internship program is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association. The Counseling Center's faculty and staff also provide assistance to faculty, administrators and staff in enhancing the learning process.
Office of Student Health Promotion and Education
The Office of Student Health Promotion and Education supports activities that empower Georgia State students to make healthier choices and achieve academic success. The health educator and peer health educators provide wellness education in interactive settings (e.g., workshops, campus campaigns, awareness events), connect students with resources to gain knowledge and provide opportunities for peer-to-peer education. We encourage self-responsibility, conscious decisions, and informed choices related to health. A wellness library with books, videos, brochures, posters, and other materials are available for students to obtain additional knowledge about health topics. Online educational materials and links to health sites are also provided through the Office of Student Health Promotion and Education.
The health educator is available to advise students and coordinate programming with various groups. Among the topics addressed:
- Alcohol and other drug awareness
- Smoking
- Safer sex
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Sexual assault
