1. Directions to campus: How do I get to campus if I'm driving or taking Marta?

From I-75/85 Northbound:

Exit #246 (Central Avenue/Fulton Street). Follow the signs to Fulton Street. At the light at the end of the ramp, turn right on Fulton. At the next light, turn left on Capitol Avenue. After crossing MLK Jr. Drive, Capitol Avenue becomes Piedmont Avenue and passes through campus.

From I-75/85 Northbound H.O.V. Lane:

Exit at Memorial Drive. At the first light, go straight and you will be on Central Avenue, which leads to the campus.

From I-75/85 Southbound:

Exit #249A (Courtland Street/Georgia State University) is a one-way street that leads to the campus.

From I-20 Eastbound:

Exit #56B (Windsor/Spring Street), go straight to the third traffic light. Take a left on Central Avenue, which leads to the campus.

From I-20 Westbound:

Exit #58A (Capitol Avenue) and turn right at the light. Stay on Capitol Avenue, which changes into Piedmont Avenue and leads to the campus.

MARTA:

Take the East/West Rapid Rail line to the Georgia State Station (E1). Exit the station onto Piedmont Avenue and turn right. For a map of the campus, please visit www.gsu.edu/map.html.

2. What is the phone number to ??? (Offices and Departments)

Phone numbers as well as office locations can be found by going to campusdirectory.gsu.edu. You can also search by specific office or service by visiting www.gsu.edu, and clicking on 'Offices and Services.' A complete alphabetical listing will be provided. The main Georgia State University number is (404) 413-2000.

3. How do I sign up for an information session and/or campus tour?

Visitors and guests can sign up for an information session and/or a Campus Atlanta tour by going online to www.gsu.edu/visitor_center.html. For University Lofts tours and special group tours of 10 or more people, please call the Welcome Center directly at (404) 413-2063.

Groups of 10 or more can directly contact the Welcome Center at (404) 413-2063 to arrange special tours. Welcome Center staff will provide campus tours, reserve conference rooms, schedule speakers from the offices such as Admissions or Financial Aid and help make arrangements with on-campus dining services for groups that wish to dine on campus. Groups must call the Welcome Center two weeks in advance to schedule special tours.

To answer many of your questions, please go to the Georgia State University Web site at www.gsu.edu and click on the prospective students link. There you will find information on how to apply for undergraduate and graduate admission to Georgia State. For additional information please call the Undergraduate Office of Admissions at (404) 413-2500. 5. What do I do now that I have been accepted to Georgia State University?

As an accepted student to the University, you will receive information by mail on housing, orientation and registration (Incept: New Student Programs), financial aid and several university services. You also may access our Next Steps for Accepted Students website at www.gsu.edu/next_steps.html for accepted student information. Students are strongly encouraged to become familiar with gosolar.gsu.edu to review account information and to register for Housing and Incept Orientation. Accepted students also must provide documentation of required immunization to the Health Services Office prior to attempting to register. Information on the immunization requirement may be found online at www2.gsu.edu/~wwwdss/health.html.

6. Now that I have been accepted, how do I register for classes?

The official registration program for Georgia State University is Incept, New Student Orientation Programs. Incept is mandatory for all incoming freshmen and strongly encouraged for transfer students. At the appropriate time, you will be notified to register for your Incept session by registering on line at student.gosolar.gsu.edu

7. How can students, faculty and staff contact the Registrar's Office when they have registration questions or problems?

8. What is the One Stop Shop?

Georgia State's One Stop Shop is the place to get answers to your enrollment questions, including student accounts, financial aid and registration. Service is provided in person, by phone (404) 413-2600 or by e-mail (onestopshop@gsu.edu). The One Stop Shop is located in rooms 227 and 228, Sparks Hall, and in room 292, Kell Hall. Hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Satellite locations will be open during the semester. Please check the One Stop Shop Web site for locations, dates and times.

9. How do students register for the Regents Test?

Students register at www.gsu.edu/testing and click on Regents.

10. I will be attending Georgia State University as a transient student, how do I find out if my classes will transfer back to my home institution?

Please check with your home institution on whether your classes will transfer back to your home institution.

11. What is the deadline for financial aid?

The priority deadline is April 1 for the following fall semester. For consideration of available aid, however, we process financial aid applications throughout the year. You must reapply each year.

12. Can I register if my financial aid file is not complete?

Yes, you may register, but your file must be complete by the fee payment deadline if you expect to use financial aid to help cover your fees.

13. How will I be notified of my financial aid award status?

The Office of Financial Aid will be contacting you regarding your award using your Georgia State University designated e-mail address. You may check your award status on the web under the Office of Student Financial Aid Menu at http://student.gosolar.gsu.edu. If you do not accept all or part of the awards within 15 days from the date of your award letter, all awards may be canceled for the entire year.

14. How do I apply for the HOPE Scholarship?

First-time freshmen - You will need to complete the GSFAPPS online at gacollege411.org or a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Transfer Student - The HOPE Scholarship does not automatically transfer from school to school. All Transfer students must complete a Georgia State HOPE Transfer Application in addition to the FAFSA (which includes loans, grants, and federal work study) OR you may complete the GSFAPPS on line at gacollege411.org

15. Who can I call if I have questions about financial aid?

You may call Georgia State Office of Student Financial Aid at (404) 413-2400 or the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC), at 1-800-546-HOPE. Complete HOPE scholarship regulations also are found at the GSFC website at gacollege411.org

16. What is the cost of tuition?

Tuition for entering freshmen is a guaranteed rate for 4 years (beginning Fall 2006).

In-state tuition per semester is $163 per credit hour or $1,946 for full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours) plus the mandatory fee of $463.

Out-of-state tuition per semester is $649 per credit hour or $7,785 for full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours) plus the mandatory fee of $463.

17. What are housing costs for University Commons and University Lofts?

Housing is provided for students in the University Commons and the University Lofts. The cost of housing in the Commons ranges from $3,275 to is $3,996 per semester for fall and spring semesters. The cost of housing in the Lofts ranges from $2,975 to $4,688 per semester for fall and spring semesters. Parking at the Commons and Lofts is an additional cost.

18. When will I know if I have a housing assignment?

You will be notified via your Georgia State student e-mail account. Notifications to students seeking summer, fall and/or spring housing are released beginning in April of each year. Early application improves the probability that you will receive a housing offer. Housing assignments are offered bi-monthly until all rooms are confirmed with an agreement and payment.

19. Will I be able to park at my housing location?

You must have a room assignment before you can apply for parking. Parking is assigned on a first come first served basis, depending on parking application receipt date. Parking spaces will be assigned throughout the year as spaces become available. Parking at the Lofts is assigned by Auxiliary Services. Parking at the Commons is assigned by University Housing.

20. Do all new freshmen and transfer students have to attend Incept: New Student Orientation?

Freshmen: Yes, Incept is a mandatory program that all new freshmen students must attend at Georgia State University.

Transfer: No, Incept is not required but is highly recommended for all new transfer students at Georgia State University.


21. How do I register for and get information about Incept: New Student Orientation?

You register for Incept by logging onto your GoSolar online student records account. For information call (404) 413-1570 or go to www.gsu.edu/incept.

22. What do I need to do to be able to park on campus?

All students are required to register their vehicles online at www.gsu.edu/parking and request a parking permit.

23. Where do I park?

Students have a choice of parking at the Turner Field Blue Lot and riding the PantherExpress shuttle bus to campus or parking at one of the lots on campus. Fees for all parking options are listed at www.gsu.edu/parking

24. How can I pay for parking?

Students who want to pay daily may pay cash at the parking lot entrances. Students also may obtain a semester permit or a Budget Card from the customer service window at Auxiliary Services on the 2nd floor of the Bookstore building. Payment methods for semester permits and Budget Cards are cash, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

25. What if I do not have a car, can I buy a MARTA card on campus?

Students may purchase a monthly MARTA card at a discounted rate each month from the customer service window at Auxiliary Services on the 2nd floor of the Bookstore building. The current cost is $26.00, a 50% reduction off the full fare cost if purchased from MARTA.

26. Can I dial 911 for police/fire/EMS?

Yes, however if you do call 911 you will reach the city of Atlanta and they will transfer you to Georgia State University Police Department. For faster service call the Georgia State police directly at (404) 413-3333. The Georgia State Police Department offers a safety escort service to all members of the university community from 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Call (404) 413-2100 for assistance.

28. What are the library's hours?

Hours during the semester: Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-12 a.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday, noon-8 p.m.

Hours during the semester break: Monday-Friday., 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, closed

29. Is the university closed? (During inclement weather or other emergencies)

The university is always presumed open unless stated closed on the university's Web site, www.gsu.edu, and announced by television and radio stations.

30. Which athletic conference is Georgia State a member of, and how many intercollegiate sports does the university support?

Georgia State is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and has a 16-sport Division I athletics program. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field (outdoor). Women's sports include basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field (indoor and outdoor), and volleyball.

31. Who do I call for ticket information and where are Panther sporting events located?

Chuck Whitmire is ticket manager, telephone number (404) 413-4021. Georgia State students are admitted free to all athletics events by showing their student I.D. card. For all others, admission is charged for men's and women's basketball and baseball. A listing of some of the sports and their locations:

    * Men's and Women's Basketball and Volleyball compete in the Sports Arena at 125 Decatur St. at Collins.
    * Baseball and Softball compete at Panthersville
    * Men's and Women's Golf compete at Eagle's Landing

    * Men's Tennis compete at Bitsy Grant Tennis Center

32. How do I join the Student Recreation Center?

Faculty/staff: you may pay by the semester or sign up for payroll deduction at the Service Counter in the lobby of the SRC. Bring your Panther I.D. and if you do not want to do payroll deduction the Recreation Center takes cash and checks. The cost is $84/semester or $252 for the year. Payroll deduction is $21 per mo. You also will be asked to sign a waiver.

Student: You have automatic membership through your student activity fee.

Graduates: The fee is $102/semester or $302 /year. Please bring proof of graduation to the service counter in the SRC. Please present a photo I.D. You will be asked to sign a waiver. Payment by cash or check is accepted.

33. What types of classes/programs are offered at the Alpharetta Center?

The focus here is on the part-time or Flex (flexible) MBA program (Master's of Business, Graduate Business), and the Professional MBA program.  The Alpharetta Center also offers some graduate-level education courses and some undergraduate business classes. The Center does not offer any full undergraduate degrees at this time.
