Financial Aid and Fee Payment for Spring Semester

If your 2012-2013 financial aid application file is not completed by December 15, 2012, you will not be awarded in time for the fee deadline of January 11, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. You will receive any financial aid that you are eligible for at a later date as reimbursement.

Spring 2013 Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid will begin posting Spring Semester 2013 financial aid awards to students’ account on January 19, 2013.   If you have been approved to receive financial aid, check your PAWS account to view your financial aid award.  Make sure your anticipated financial aid award covers all tuition and fee charges.  Graduate students must be enrolled in 4.5 hours and Law Students and Undergraduate students must be enrolled in 6 hours at the time of disbursement in order to receive a student loan.

The Office of Student Accounts will begin processing Spring semester refunds the week of January 21st.  If your financial aid award is greater than the total cost of your tuition and fees, you will be refunded the excess amount. For those students who have set-up direct deposit, please check with your bank for the availability of your funds no earlier than January 25, 2013.  If you have not set-up direct deposit, a check will be mailed to the mailing address you have entered in PAWS under Personal Information.  To avoid delays in receiving your refund, we encourage you to sign up for direct deposit. To sign up for direct deposit, simply log-on to PAWS, go to the Student Accounts Menu and select 'Enroll\Change Direct Deposit'.

Bookstore Financial Aid Advance Amount

As a service to eligible financial aid recipients, Georgia State University offers students the opportunity to use financial aid funds as an advancement to purchase books and supplies from the Georgia State University Bookstore only. (Note: the advancement is deducted from the financial aid award along with tuition and fee charges).

In order to access the book store advancement, a student is issued an account in the Georgia State University Campus Book Store. The book store advancement is an early refund of financial aid funds (e.g. the Pell grant or a Stafford loan). YOUR BOOKSTORE ADVANCEMENT IS DEDUCTED FROM YOUR GRANTS AND LOANS.  IT IS NOT A SEPARATE OR ADDITIONAL TYPE OF FINANCIAL AID.

Your financial aid bookstore advancement will be available for purchasing books and supplies beginning December 10, 2012 through January 19, 2013 inside the bookstore as well as via the University Bookstore website.  You can make purchases with your financial aid advancement at www.gsu.bkstr.com. If you choose not to make purchases at the bookstore, the amount will be available as part of your refund.

Pell Grant Change for Summer 2013

Due to changes in the federal budget, Summer Pell is no longer available for most students. Only students who did not use their full Pell during Fall 2012 - Spring 2013 attendance will be eligible for any leftover Pell for the summer semester. More about the Pell Grant >>

Financial Aid for Repeated Courses

A new federal regulation limits the number of times a student may repeat a course and receive financial aid for that course. Learn more about the new regulation.
