Georgia State University is proud to have been a part of downtown Atlanta for 90 years. The University's pro-active approach to preventing crime has succeeded in minimizing criminal activity on campus and promoting a strong sense of awareness and safety.

As a university located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, Georgia State is not alone in its efforts to prevent and combat crime. The downtown area boasts several agencies assigned to provide security including the Ambassador Force, which is made up of men and women who serve as extra eyes and ears for the central Business District. Georgia State University Police have strong working partnerships with these agencies.

The men and women of the Georgia State University Police Department are committed and dependable. These officers are given the responsibility of protecting the academic environment from crime and disruption. They get the job done.

The Department provides a variety of services ranging from crime prevention to emergency management service. It is composed of more than 80 officers certified by the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council of Georgia, as well as 26 part-time security guards, 23 full-time security guards, 12 communication dispatchers and 8 supporting staff member and 1 emergency management director.
