What is the Georgia State University AlumNet Team?

The AlumNet TeamThe AlumNet Team, created during the spring of 1995 and sponsored by the Georgia State University Alumni Association, seeks to raise public awareness about the important role that higher education plays in Georgia's future. The primary mission of the group's 50 members is to share support of Georgia State and higher education with state legislators and government officials. Members are appointed by the university president and serve a two-year term. They reside in all regions of the state to ensure Georgia State's representation in key legislative districts.

AlumNet members are involved in a variety of legislative activities at the university. Members attend an annual legislative reception to honor and recognize Georgia's legislators and state officials. This event, known as the Georgia State University Leadership Appreciation Night, provides AlumNet and Georgia State with an opportunity to showcase university accomplishments and share priorities with state legislators and government officials.

AlumNet remains effective today because members become actively involved in supporting higher education in their home communities. From time to time, members are asked to write or call their local legislator and let him or her know of the university's position on a legislative issue. This method of legislative communication has helped deliver the important message that education has a great impact and influence on Georgia's economic heath.

The Office of State Relations in the Division of External Affairs manages and coordinates the activities of the university's AlumNet Team.
