The Office of Educational Opportunity and TRIO Programs and Student Support Services will present a panel discussion of Gullah culture and history. A reception featuring Gullah cuisine will follow. The event will be moderated by Doris Derby, director of African American Student Services and Programs. The panel will include Queen Quet, chieftess of the Gullah-Geechee Nation, Sallie Ann Robinson, a former Daufuskie Island resident and author of two Gullah cookbooks, and Akinyele Umoja, associate professor in the Department of African American Studies at Georgia State University. Queen Quet and Sallie Ann Robinson will be available after the presentation for book signings and sales. Co-sponsors for the event include the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing, the Office of African American Student Services and Programs, the Ronald E. McNair Program, the Office of Student Life and Leadership, and the Child Care Access Means Parents In School (CCAMPIS) Project. Please join us to learn more about this remarkable segment of African-American history and culture.
