Social Security Number Conversion Project
The university is working to remove the social security number (SSN) as the GoSOLAR Log-in ID (Student ID). Below, and in the following pages, you will find information on the status of this project including the introduction of the new Panther #. The pages will also let you know of any actions that you may need to take.
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has mandated that all of its institutions discontinue the use of a SSN as the primary look-up key for all faculty, staff and students. On November 30, 2006, Georgia State’s Conversion Project Team began meeting to develop the process of migrating from an SSN to a Unique ID. The anticipated implementation date of the Unique ID is September 2007. At the point of conversion, the Unique ID will become the method by which campus members are identified in our systems, applications and databases.
This change is critical in the continuing efforts to reduce the risk of identity theft of our faculty, staff and students.
Updates on the SSN Conversion Project will be available through this website, as well as The Villager, The Signal, campus e-mail, GoSOLAR and other media sources for the university community.
