Regents' Test Requirements

All undergraduates, including transfer students, are required to pass the Regents' Reading and Writing tests before reaching 45 credit hours. Students transferring to Georgia State from other University System of Georgia institutions are subject to the same rules as Georgia State students with no transfer credit. Transfer students from non-USG schools who transfer in 30 or more credit hours must take the Regents' Test prior to their third semester of enrollment.*  Students who do not take or pass the Regents' Test are required to register for Regents' review courses.

Students may exempt all or part of the Regents' Test by presenting certain minimums of AP credit, SAT/ACT scores, and English 1101 grades. A list of exemptions may be found on the Regents' Test Program web site. Essay topics and a sample reading exam are also available on this site.

For a list of exam dates and alternative tests, please see the Regents' Test page on the Georgia State University Testing Center web site.

*Please note: Semesters during which the student is enrolled at Georgia State University, regardless of whether the student is registered for classes, count as semesters for the purpose of the Regents' Testing policy. The Regents' Test may be taken during semesters when the student is not registered for classes.
