Dropping & Adding Classes
You can make changes to your schedule online through GoSOLAR until the last day of Late Registration. Check the Registration Calendar to view registration dates. Students who wait until Late Registration to register for classes will incur a fee of $50.00. Any schedule revision after late registration must be done in the Offiice of the Registrar and may be refused by the faculty. At that time, you will also be charged a nonrefundable manual registration fee of $37.50 for each change.
Dropping a Class
You drop a class when you remove the class from your schedule during Early, Regular or Late Registration. A dropped class does not appear on your transcript. Late Registration is the last time period for dropping a class without penalty. After the last day of Late Registration, only withdrawal from classes will be allowed. Remember, to be certified as a full-time student, you must carry a minimum of 12 semester hours.
A student who is enrolled in less than a full-time course of study at Georgia State may be in jeopardy of:
- losing insurance coverage under his or her parent/guardian’s insurance policy
- being out of compliance with the Department of Homeland Security if enrolled at Georgia State on a student visa
- being placed on a loan payment schedule by a lender or guarantor if the student is the recipient of federal financial aid
- losing a scholarship if the guidelines for receiving the scholarship require full-time student enrollment.
Adding a Class
You may also add classes to your schedule during Early, Regular and Late Registration. A student may schedule as many as 18 semester hours without special permission. If the student has completed a course load of 15 semester hours in a previous semester at Georgia State with a grade point average of at least 3.00 for that semester, requests for exceptions to the maximum course will be considered by the Student Advisement Center or the Office of Academic Assistance of a student’s college. To qualify to take more than 18 hours in a semester, the student must also meet either of the following conditions:
- The student attained the Faculty Scholar designation during his or her most recent enrollment at Georgia State and, if her or she is a reentering student, he or she has achieved a grade of A for all credit hours earned elsewhere since the most recent enrollment at Georgia State.
- The student has earned 50 semester hours of credit with cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 for the preceding two semesters of residence.
