Cross-Registration
Cross-registration enables Georgia State students to take classes at any of the 20 member institutions of the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education and receive credit, while paying tuition costs to the home institution. The intent of the program is to allow qualified students to take course work in their area of study that is not available on their own campuses.
Cross-registration is at the discretion of the home and host schools. Each institution reserves the right to exclude certain classes from the program or to reject applications turned in after the stated deadline. Students must contact their home school coordinator who will process the application.
Cross-Registration Benefits
Georgia State University students benefit from cross-registration in three important ways:
- Courses count as resident credit, not as transfer.
- Courses and grades appear on the Georgia State transcript.
- Fees are paid to Georgia State at Georgia State rates.
Apply for Cross-Registration
To be eligible to participate, undergraduate students must have approval from the Office of Academic Assistance in their college. Graduate students must have the approval of the faculty adviser or department chair. Students must be enrolled at Georgia State during the term of cross-registration.
Requirements
- GPA must be 2.00 or above
- must be enrolled at home school
- comply with host immunization policy
- obtain approval in the Office of Academic Assistance
- meet application deadlines
Please fill out the ARCHE application for cross-registration.
When deadlines fall on a weekend or holiday, applications are due on the preceding workday.

Registration Details
Pay attention to these procedures to make sure your cross-registration goes smoothly.
Registration at Georgia State University
Students cannot register for a cross-registration course via the GoSOLAR online student registration.
The cross-registration course is entered on the student's schedule by the Georgia State cross-registration coordinator after confirmation of registration from the host school and will appear on the Georgia State schedule as viewed on GoSOLAR.
Registration at the Host School
The registration process at host school varies. Emory University requires cross registrants to show up on a specific day to register. Cross registrants going to Georgia Tech need only go to class after notification of registration from Tech. Most schools send an instructional letter to incoming students.
Health Records
All University System of Georgia schools and some private schools require proof of immunization for measles, mumps and rubella. Georgia Tech requires students to fill out a health form and have proof of a skin TB test within the last six months. The TB skin test can be done in the Georgia State Health Services Office, 147 Sparks Hall, Monday through Wednesday. The fee is five dollars. If the immunization record is on file at Georgia State, the cross-registration coordinator will print the record and attach it to the cross-registration application.
Prerequisites
Cross registrants are subject to the same prerequisites as home students. It is the student's responsibility to ensure prerequisites are met.
Closed Classes
Certain classes are restricted from cross-registration. This restriction includes calculus I through V, general chemistry, most engineering classes and all design courses in architecture at Georgia Tech. Emory University does not give overflows to cross registrants.
Drop/Add
During registration students can call the campus cross-registration coordinator to drop a class. Students wishing to add or change a class need to get prior approval from an academic advisor. After registration is over, drop/add is concluded and only withdrawal is possible.
Withdrawal
Students who decide to discontinue a class after registration is over should go directly to the host coordinator at the host school and follow host procedures for withdrawal. Georgia State students cannot withdraw from a cross-registration course using GoSOLAR. Contact the cross-registration coordinator at (404) 413-2229 or fill out a withdrawal form located in 227 Sparks Hall.
Payment of Fees
Fees are due in Students Accounts by the end of Phase II Registration at Georgia State.
Transcripts
The signed cross-registration application gives the host school permission to send the student's transcript back to Georgia State. Only Georgia State and Kennesaw automatically send transcripts back to the home school at the end of each semester. Other schools require students to fill out a transcript request form. The University of Georgia charges $2.00 for each transcript sent. It is the student's responsibility to have transcripts sent back to the Georgia State cross-registration coordinator.
