Severe Economic Hardship

Severe Economic Hardship

Economic hardship is a type of off-campus employment authorization that is available to students whose source of support has been adversely and significantly affected due to “unforeseen circumstances beyond the student’s control”. Immigration lists a few examples of “unforeseen changes”: loss of financial aid or on-campus employment without fault on the part of the student, substantial fluctuations in the value of currency or exchange rate, medical bills, etc. If you think that this option is for you and that on-campus employment options and CPT are not enough to financially support you during your studies, come to ISSS to discuss your situation with an advisor. Please be aware that this type of employment authorization is rarely approved and you will have to provide documents to support your case.
