4. I registered today, but the insurance charge is not there.
Insurance charges post once a day early in the morning. Therefore, if you register in the morning today then your charges will be posted the next business day.
5. I registered in early registration and was charged $432, but I have a GRA.
The reduced rate is credited on the next day after your GRA waiver is posted to your account by your home department.
6. Will I get an insurance card?
Yes, you will receive your permanent insurance card, directly from Pearce and Pearce in the mail.
7. What if I need to see a doctor and my insurance card has not yet arrived?
You would need to enroll at Pearce and Pearce’s website. Go to http://www.studentinsurance.com/ and you will enroll yourself under the Mandatory Plan. After 24 hours you will be able to log in to your account and print a Temporary Insurance card.
8. I am an OPT student, am I required to have the Mandatory health insurance?
No. Students that have OPT may purchase the Pearce and Pearce voluntary insurance or other insurance plans of your choice. If you have any other questions please visit the International Student & Scholar Services office for other options.
9. How do I apply for a waiver?
Students who already have comparable insurance coverage can waive the insurance requirement by using an online process provided on the Pearce & Pearce website for Georgia State University at www.studentinsurance.com. A comparable plan is one that meets the minimum requirements indicated on the website above or is on the approved waiver list. If your home country is not listed then select the option Other and describe your coverage in the text box on the next page.
10. Can my waiver be denied?
Yes, if your insurance does not provide acceptable coverage in comparison with that provided by Pearce and Pearce. However if your plan has comparable coverage and you still have been denied then follow the steps below:
- If denied the first time, you may appeal by re-applying at Pearce and Pearce.
- If denied the second time, you may appeal to the University at Student Accounts.
11. If I have more questions, who should I ask?
Please contact the Office of Student Accounts (404) 413-2146, or Pearce & Pearce, Inc. (http://www.studentinsurance.com/, 1-888-222-6491, or gsu@studentinsurance.com).
