J. Mack Robinson College of Business

Registration restrictions apply to upper-level courses (numbered 3000-4999) and to graduate courses (numbered 8000-8999) offered by the Robinson College of Business, as described below. Exemptions defined for each restriction are the only exemptions that will be permitted. Students who are exempted from these restrictions have already been authorized for registration. Students who should have received an exemption from any of these restrictions but who continue to receive a “not authorized” error message during registration should contact the Robinson College of Business, Office of Undergraduate Academic Assistance, at (404) 413-7115, 315 RCB Building, 35 Broad Street, to correct the error.

CAUTION: Students who register for upper-level RCB courses during early registration, during the current term, but fall below the minimum required GPA or hours earned as described below must drop from those upper-level RCB courses during regular registration. It is the student’s responsibility to be familiar with these regulations and to register for appropriate classes.

2.50 GPA Restriction for Upper-Level (3000-4999) RCB Courses

Students with less than a 2.50 cumulative Georgia State grade-point average are not eligible to register for upper level RCB courses (numbered 3000-4999). Transfer grades are not counted in the Georgia State grade-point average. This requirement applies to all undergraduate students regardless of degree program or status. Exemptions from this requirement only will be permitted for students who have not yet attained a grade-point average at Georgia State as a result of: (1) having received only noncalculable grades (AU, W, I, etc.); or (2) having not yet received grades at Georgia State (new student or enrolled in first semester).

2.50 GPA Restriction for Upper-Level (3000-4999) Computer Information Courses

Any student, regardless of degree program, who has attempted nine credit hours or more at Georgia State must maintain a cumulative Georgia State GPA of at least 2.50 to be eligible to enroll in any upper-level (numbered 3000-4999) CIS course. Transfer grades are not counted in the Georgia State GPA. Exemptions only will be permitted for students who have earned fewer than nine hours at Georgia State. Note: This exemption does not apply to the College’s minimum 2.50 GPA restriction described above for enrollment in RCB upper-level courses.

45-Hour Rule

Students with fewer than 45 semester hours are not eligible to register for upper-level RCB courses (numbered 3000-4999). This restriction applies to all undergraduate degree-seeking students regardless of degree program. Transfer credit counts toward the 45-semester-hour total. Exemptions from this regulation will be allowed only for graduate students, transients, postbaccalaureates, and students in nondegree categories.

Place-Holding Warning—IMPORTANT NOTICE

Registering for classes you do not intend to take and holding them for other students unfairly blocks students with higher priority from registering. Place holding creates disruption in normal university operations and is prohibited. Engaging in place-holding conduct may result in disciplinary sanctions (including withdrawal from classes or loss of registration privileges) for both students holding registration places as well as the students for which registration places are held.

BA 5000 - Graduate Student Orientation for the J. Mack Robinson College of Business

All new graduate students within the MBA and Specialized Master’s Program are required to register and attend BA 5000 during their first term of enrollment in the program. (Candidates in Masters of International Business are the ONLY graduate students exempt from this Orientation.  MIB students must register for and attend IB 5000 instead of BA 5000). BA 5000 is for zero credit hours and there is no charge for enrollment. All graduate students must first register for a section of BA 5000 before registering for any other course(s). Exceptions are not permitted. Students encountering difficulties in registration should contact Wanda Bartlett (404) 413-7002 .

RCB - Master’s Communication Skills and Strategies Requirement

As the MBA curriculum changed as of fall 2004, all MBA candidates following the New MBA Curriculum will satisfy this requirement by enrolling in the newly designed MBA 8015 and earning a grade of C or higher. Those MBA candidates following the former Catalog, who have not already satisfied the requirement and who do not wish to take MBA 8015 to satisfy the requirement will be required to satisfactorily complete a one-day, noncredit workshop in “Communication skills and Strategies” before registering for their fifth 8000 level RCB class.

The Business Communications Program Office – (404) 413-7650

All other Master’s students (except M. Tax and new MPA students) are to complete the same Communication Skills and Strategy Workshop at the above link.  M. Tax students fulfill this requirement by completing BComm 8250 with a grade of C or higher. MPA students following the 2005-2006 curriculum fulfill this requirement by completing MBA 8015 with a grade of C or higher.  Students, who believe they have successfully completed the workshop, but continue to receive an error message in registration, should contact the office of Graduate Admission and Student Services at (404) 413-7130 to correct the error.

CIS Courses

Prerequisites for any course offered by the CIS department are strictly enforced. This includes all CIS prefixed courses (both undergraduate and graduate courses). Failure to comply with these prerequisites for any courses offered by the CIS department will result in an automatic disenrollment from the course with a possible loss of tuition fees. NOTE: CIS majors are subject to validation of computing skills prerequisites (CSP) beginning fall 2001. Beginning fall semester 1997, BBA/CIS majors must have completed MATH 2420 (formerly Math 220) before enrolling in upper-level CIS classes (numbered 3000-4999).

Prerequisite Enforcement

Students are cautioned that prerequisites are enforced in many Robinson College of Business classes. Students without prerequisites are subject to administrative withdrawal from classes by the instructor, department, or college. Withdrawal usually occurs after all registration for the semester has ended and results in a loss of fees to the student. Students should familiarize themselves with course prerequisites prior to registering. Course prerequisites are listed in the graduate and undergraduate catalogs with the course descriptions. Course prerequisites may not be taken concurrently. Computing Skill Prerequisites (CSPs) are subject to change. Check with RCB’s Office of Academic Assistance for the most current listings of CSPs.
