- November 13 and 14: Library.  Johnny Mercer Centennial Celebration: In recognition of the centennial of songwriter Johny Mercer's birth, Georgia State University Library's Popular Music and Culture Archives is presenting the "Popular Music in the Mercer Era, 1910-1970" conference. The conference is a two- day exploration of popular music during the Johnny Mercer's lifetime, held at the Georgia State University's Rialto Center for the Arts in Atlanta. The conference includes presentations be internationally renowned  scholars providing insight into Johnny Mercer and the popular music of his era; the Atlanta premier of the new Johnny Mercer documentary film; and culminates with a special performance of Johnny Mercer's music with Lizz Wright, Joe Gransden and the Georgia State University School of Music.  All events, activities, breakfast, lunches and receptions are free of charge, you only need to pay for the ticket to attend the closing event at the Rialto. The Emeriti Association sponsors the following events:

  • Monthly Lecture Lunches in campus.
  • Emeriti Holiday Party .

 

A sample of the many past events that Emeriti have enjoyed are: several holiday parties at Emeritus John Hogan's home; a summertime party around Emeriti Lorene Pilcher's pool,  with music by Emeritus Al Pieper's trio; a tour of Madison with lunch at Emeritus Hiram and Babs Johnston's farm. For the first time in the fall of 2008, the Emeriti offered "The North Georgia Vineyards, Tour and Tastings. The trip was very informative, and the foliage was specially beautiful the day of the trip.

Some of the lecture lunches the association has offered includes: updates on the economy by former director of the Economic Forecasting Center Emeritus Donald Ratajczak and by the present director of that Center, Rajeev Dhawan ; advise on estate planning by Law Professor Mary Radford; Secret Sharing on Espionage by Emerita Janet Benario; inside information on tax issues by Anna Hogan and Emeritus John Hogan; updates on the University by former President Dr. Carl Patton; and reminiscence about the "good ole days" at Georgia State University by Emeritus Mike Mescon.

Georgia State University sponsors the following events:

  •  The Saint Valentine's Day Emeriti Lunch
The event is set up to be an annual tradition for the Emeriti in appreciation for their years of service. While listening to wonderful music provided by the School of Music, Emeriti will have time to converse with their peers. The lunch main speaker will update Emeriti on current affairs at the University or on any  topic of interest for the group.
