Why We're Here

The Association provides Emeriti opportunities for intellectual, creative, and social connections with each other through events of interest at the University and in the communities served by the University. Stay connected with colleagues by joining the Emeriti Association.

How We Started

In 2002, Georgia State University administration suggested creating the Emeriti Association, an organization that would connect retired faculty and staff that had been given Emeritus status.  The Coordinating Committee, a group of Emeriti professors representing each one of the University's Colleges, facilitated the development.  It began with the task of establishing the Association's bylaws to explain the terms of membership as well as the duties of both officers and subcommittees.

Who We Are

The President of Georgia State University bestows the title, Emeritus, on faculty and administration who have distinguished themselves through research, teaching and/or service with ten or more years of honorable and distinguished service. However, the title of President Emeritus can only be conferred by the Board of Regents on the recommendation of the Chancellor.  These honorees are experts in their respective field and represent all 8 Colleges of the University, as well as various Departments.  Their exemplary work is truly appreciated and their contribution to the University has been and continues to be invaluable.

Those interested in being considered for Emeritus distinction should inform their respective Department Chair or Immediate Supervisor.
