Our Mission, Purpose and Goals

Mission/Purpose

The mission of the Office of Diversity Education Planning is to engage students, faculty, staff as well as the Atlanta metropolitan community in the educational process of developing, implementing and assessing programs and projects related to the scope of diversity. Further, the Office coordinates with other administrative units to advance the university's diversity agenda.

Central to Georgia State University's mission is its desire to provide "educational opportunity" of the highest quality that is tailored to meet the needs of its diverse student, faculty and staff population. The university has also identified becoming a national model for diversity in higher education, demonstrating that students from all backgrounds can achieve academic and career success at high rates as a key strategic goal.

Goals

Goal 1: To promote diversity at Georgia State University.

To facilitate the Diversity Strategic Planning Process through an agreed upon GSU Diversity Strategic Plan Structure. To monitor the implementation of diversity programs, projects and intiatives. To engage management of diversity as an assessment tool. To provide leadership in sustaining diversity at Georgia State University.

Goal 2: To coordinate diversity strategic initiatives across the University

This office willl coordinate with others to implement the goals, implementation stratgies and metrics of the Diversity Strategic Plan.

Goal 3: To provide diversity awareness training to the university community 

Through eLearning, and in-preson training, the Office will provide an exploration of diversity to include topics such as: race and cultural relations, religion in the workplace, sexual orientation and gender identity, and generational differences.
