I chose to attend Georgia State University because it is exactly what I wanted. I wanted a good school with a good reputation in an urban setting. GSU turned out to be better than anything I had expected, and I am so glad I made the decision to come here.
Campus Activities and Organizations: Georgia State University Honors Program, Honors Student Organization, Peer Health Educators, Jewish Student Union
Most Memorable Georgia State experience: My best and most memorable Georgia State experience was my sophomore year, when our basketball team played Florida State. There were so many Georgia State fans at the game, everyone decked out in Georgia State shirts, hats, foam fingers, people with GSU painted on their chests, and it was just an awesome experience. I had the most fun I’ve ever had at that game, and will never forget it.
If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be and why? Definitely old school Nickelodeon’s Darkwing Duck. He was just so cool, fighting crime, flying all over the place in the coolest flying car ever, and his theme song is simply the best of all time.
Favorite Georgia State tradition: My favorite Georgia State tradition would have to be the DJ they set up in Library Plaza the first week of school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and throughout the semester. It is just so cool to see all the Greeks out there strolling and stepping, and the plaza becomes so packed full of people it makes the campus feel really together. It is always the highlight of my Tuesday or Thursday.
What advice would you give to incoming students? I would tell incoming students that to come to Georgia State and not become involved is probably the worst decision you could make. There are so many opportunities to become involved in and around campus, with so many organizations and events. We are in the heart of Atlanta, so venturing off campus to explore or just walk around is always a good way to spend an afternoon. But the best advice to give by far is to bring sneakers, because being in the urban setting calls for much walking around. And walking around the city is one of the best parts of being in the city. So a good pair of sneakers is a very, very good investment.
After I graduate from Georgia State, I hope to... After I graduate, I have a few options I have been looking toward. I might go straight to law school in the fall, or I might take some time off and intern or work at a firm before heading to law school. The degree I graduate with will be in psychology, so I have the option of going to graduate school for psychology, or taking time off to work or intern with a practice. Of course, typical of every graduating college student, I could just take a year off and travel around the world, but I suppose we’ll just have to see how I’m feeling in a couple of years.
