CTW Proposal Template Guide
Ambassador's Guide for Completion of the CTW Proposal Template (on-line):
Note that the template is divided into two sections, one for reporting basic implementation plans for the major, and one for proposing each CTW course within each degree major. Each department/program must include the following in its CTW Proposal Template:
A description of the CTW implementation plan for the degree major within the department or program. Include a definition of critical thinking as it applies to your discipline and as it adheres to the University's definition as explained on the template.
- A description of the plan for assessing CTW in your major. Include briefly how you plan to gather evidence of critical thinking through writing and how you will report this information.
- Will you use a rubric, for example?
- Will the rubric be course-based or departmentally based, for example.
- If you do not plan to use a specific rubric, explain how you plan to report on the evidence of CTW that you gather.
- What is the major that each course contributes to? Departments may have more than one baccalaureate degree program and hence more than one majors. A single CTW course may be designated as contributing to only one major or to multiple majors within a single department. For this question, we are looking for the title of the degree major that a course applies to (e.g., English is one major with four concentrations). Likewise, if a single CTW course contributes to more than one baccalaureate degree program (or major) within a department or within a college, the ambassador would list each degree major that course applies to (e.g., the College of Business offers many degree program (majors) that will be taking the Business Communications CTW course and each would need to be listed separately: Marketing, Management, etc.)
For each CTW-designated course proposed, include the following:
- title of course
- course number in catalogue
- whether this course needs approval by college's curriculum committee
- when the course will first be offered with CTW-designated course content
- course description (from university catalogue or syllabus)
- course syllabus
- some sample assignments (2-4, perhaps) from the course that are specifically designed to engage students in critical thinking through writing
- a rationale for the sample assignments - how will they demonstrate student learning (critical thinking) in your discipline/field?
- rubric(s) or other means of assessment that capture student engagement and learning for the critical thinking through writing aspect of this course
