Counseling Center

Programs & Workshops

Georgia State University 1010: Each Fall we receive numerous outreach requests from the Freshman Learning Communities (FLC) instructors.  In an effort to fill these requests, we have developed a series of presentations on various topics including Stress Management, Study Skills and Time Management, Conflict Resolutions, and Diversity.  We may also provide presentations on other topics if requested, depending upon staff availability.

Stress Management Workshop: We offer a workshop that is designed to introduce students to some basic stress management procedures. Many of our staff and trainees are trained in stress management and make these presentations upon request. This is a wonderful way for counseling center staff to collaborate with the GSU academic community and gain access to students who might not be aware of our services.

Intensive English Program: Some of our counselors participate in the Fall Orientation for students in this program. We send counselors to welcome the students and provide them with a special brochure informing them of our services. This is a welcome opportunity to meet students and inform them about the variety of programs and services that we have to offer.

Requested Programs: As previously mentioned, University student groups and organizations & faculty may request outreach programs.  Each semester we receive requests from various GSU community members. Readily available presentations include: Safe Zone training for LBGTQIQ allies, coping with depression, anxiety management, suicide response/prevention, stress management, time management, exploring diversity, alcohol and drug education, healthy relationships, conflict resolution and eating disorders/body image issues.

Student groups often ask for presentations addressing issues that are of interest to their members. When making presentations to student groups we try to design programming that fits their individual requests and in some instances we are able to match the student group with someone who has an interest in the area or was a member of that group when they themselves were in school.

We also have a number of counselors that have developed relationships with faculty and each semester are asked to present either on study skills specific to a particular subject area or in some classes administer and interpret psychological inventories, particularly the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.
