Welcome to the Georgia State University Counseling and Testing Center's practicum website. Training is an important and valued component of the Counseling and Testing Center. The Counseling and Testing Center provides advanced practicum experiences for doctoral level students in Counseling, Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology programs at Georgia State University. Qualified students from similar graduate programs at other institutions are welcome to apply.

One of the unique aspects of our training program is our focus on developing the "person of the therapist" and "the use of self" as an instrument of change. Although we represent a variety of theoretical orientations, (e.g., object relations, psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, humanistic, feminist and integrationist), we all use a supervision model that looks at your reactions to clients/supervisors and their reactions to you and how to utilize this information in your work with clients. Our major goal in supervision is empowering the therapist.

A two-semester commitment is required so that each practicum student can fully experience an extensive training experience. A description of the practicum program is as follows:

General (Beginning) Praciticum

The General Practicum is a beginning level practicum that is primarily available for GSU students who are currently enrolled in the Counseling Psychology program at Georgia State University.

Multicultural Specialty Practicum
