Since not all members of the Georgia State University community come to the Counseling Center to take advantage of our services, the Counseling Center is committed to reaching out to the university community.  Outreach services, often in the form of presentations and workshops, comprise another vital component of what our center offers.  Our outreach programs focus on meeting the developmental needs of our students and on promoting their academic, personal, social, and psychological growth. We sponsor several programs that range from specific psychological and interpersonal topics to providing information about our range of services.  In addition, the Counseling Center staff work cooperatively with other members of the Division of Student Affairs to provide collaborative programs.

Some our past presentation topics have included:

  • Overview of Counseling Center Services
  • Stress Management
  • Time Management
  • Study Skills
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Diversity Awareness
  • Trauma/Sexual Assault
  • Alcohol/Drug Education & Awareness
  • Managing Emotions
  • Relationship Issues
  • Eating Disorders & Body Image concerns

This is not an exhaustive list and other topics may be requested; however, please be aware that the Counseling Center staff may not be able to accommodate all outreach program requests. Our ability to respond to requests may be impacted by factors such as the current demand for services and availability of staff to present on a given topic.  University faculty, staff, academic departments, and student groups and organizations may request outreach programs.  When requesting a workshop or presentation, we are asking for your assistance in helping us provide quality programs by contacting us with your request at least two weeks prior to the event date. If we cannot meet a request, we will attempt to help you find other resources.

To request a presentation or for specific questions concerning Outreach & Consultation Services, please call the Counseling Center at (404) 413-1640, and ask to speak with Dr. Kensa Gunter, the Outreach Coordinator.

Consultation Services: In addition to workshops and presentations, Counseling Center staff are often called upon to consult with faculty or other university professionals about the psychological and academic well-being of students.  Whether responding to concerns about individual students in a psychological crisis, speaking to a group of students after the loss or assault of one of their peers, or simply being available following a more public crisis or trauma, the Counseling Center staff are available to assist the campus community.
