Multicultural Specialty Practicum

The Multicultural Specialty Practicum is an advanced level practicum that focuses on developing the awareness, knowledge, skills and sensitivities necessary for functioning as a culturally competent therapist. Special attention is given to the therapist's own life experiences, identity, and cultural/ethnic heritage, as well as how these factors impact the dynamics of the therapeutic relationship. Students will engage in difficult dialogues around issues of diversity and multiculturalism. Students will also be provided with didactic information and will participate in a variety of experiential activities designed to facilitate their growth and development as culturally competent therapists. This practicum carries a two-semester commitment beginning in August and ending in May of the following year. Instructors for the practicum are Dr. Alaycia Reid and Dr. Michelle Lyn.
