Mind-Body Program

Welcome to the Counseling & Testing Center’s Mind-Body Program! Life as a GSU student can be challenging as you try to balance academic, social, and extracurricular responsibilities. And while stress is a fact of life, too much stress can cause problems. It can affect your mental and physical health and negatively impact relationships with friends and family. Therefore, the ability to effectively manage stress is an important life skill for students to acquire.

Stress is the feeling we get when we believe that the demands of our life exceed our ability to cope with them. Usually, stress comes with change and uncertainty – two factors that affect everyone at some point. It’s how you handle stress that matters, because managed well, stress can be beneficial, enjoying and growth producing. The Mind-Body Program is dedicated to providing information and a set of practical tools and strategies for coping with the negative consequences of stress. Participants in our various groups and seminars will learn to: recognize the signs and symptoms of dysfunctional stress; learn and practice relaxation techniques including biofeedback; and receive support and encouragement for engaging in healthy lifestyle practices.
