Computing

Georgia State offers a variety of free computer services to students. Most of these services are available upon admission and remain yours as long as you’re eligible to register for classes. You’ll want to check with your department to see if there are specialized computer services for you, in addition to the following.

 

Network Account

Get your network account login information to get started computing. You’ll need your Campus ID and password to access many computer services.

 

Computing Services

Your Georgia State University network account provides you with access to:

  • E-mail. According to university policy, Georgia State may send official correspondence to your university e-mail address. You are responsible for accessing and reading this e-mail. Your e-mail account becomes available when you are admitted to the university and remains open as long as you are eligible to register for classes. Login to your e-mail account using the e-mail link in the toolbar in the upper right corner of this page. Visit the Student Computing Services for details about your e-mail account.
  • Lockerbox. Your Lockerbox is your personal storage space on the university’s network.
  • Web space. Create your own web site and host it on Georgia State’s system.
  • Campus computers for student use.

 

Computer Labs

Campus computers are available for students in these locations.

 

Personal Computers

Students interested in obtaining a personal computer should take advantage of student discounts offered by Dell and Apple. Also, be sure to install Symantec (Norton) Anti-Virus software.

 

HousingNet

Through HousingNet, students living in the residence halls have an Ethernet connection to the campus network and Internet.

 

Printing

Printing is available during class time in the classrooms with student computers. Check with your department to see if they have printing services for your use. Find out which printers are nearest you. Specialized printing, such as large format prints, is available in the Digital Aquarium.

 

Wireless Network

Georgia State University offers wireless networking for your laptop/PDA in many campus locations.
