Opportunities for Growing Biotechnology Start-ups

CollabTech is a joint-venture business incubator designed to attract small, growing private-sector biotechnology businesses that are interested in leveraging the opportunity to collaborate with faculty conducting research at Georgia State University.  The facility is owned/managed by the GSU Research Foundation, which has the GSU Vice President for Research as its Chairman.  Strong ties with the university as well as opportunities to access funding via the Georgia Research Alliance are conveniently available to CollabTech tenants.  Most of the existing tenants have received funding for the last several years from the Research Alliance to support research in collaboration with faculty at GSU.

Types of business or research and development activities that would be prohibited or carry restrictions to operate within the facility:
Only biotechnology tenants are being sought for the facility.  Furthermore, CollabTech does not seek tenants that heavily utilize toxic substances, although light usage of such substances may be allowed.  Heavy equipment may not be allowed.  All tenants must be approved by the owner/manager of the facility.

Lease terms for eligible users:
Generally owner/manager is offering 12-month lease terms that are renewable annually.  Current lease rates are at  $29.50 per square foot of lab and office space.  All tenants have access to shared equipment and common areas at the facility at no additional cost.  Parking, however, does require additional cost.
