Confucius Institute Scholarship

Application Procedures for the Confucius Institute Scholarship 2012

I. Scholarship Categories, Objects and Conditions

According to different types of programs, the Scholarship is divided into 3 categories, namely, Scholarships for One-Semester Study, Scholarships for One-Academic Year Study and Scholarships for a Master's Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages.

1. Scholarships for One-Semester Study

(1)Applicants are allowed to choose the time of entrance on Fall Semester 2012 or Spring Semester 2013 and the grant term is one semester.

(2)Objects:

Scholarships for One-Semester Study are provided to outstanding students from GSU Confucius Institute, outstanding performers on HSK, winners of the Huston Consular District “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students, Chinese language teachers, and outstanding college students of Chinese Language across the State of Georgia.

(3)Conditions:    

I.Applicants are required to have studied at a Confucius Institute for more than 60 hours; or have a score of at least 120 (level 2) on the new Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK).

II.Applicants are allowed to choose 2 host schools which offer several areas of specialization, including Chinese language and literature, Chinese history and Chinese Philosophy. However, the first choice MUST be “Beijing Language and Culture University” (BLCU).

III.Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens aged between 16 to 35 years old (Chinese language teachers could be up to 45 years old) and in good health.

2. Scholarships for One-Academic Year Study

(1)The time of entrance is fall 2012 and the grant term is one academic year.

(2)Objects:

Scholarships for One-Semester Study are provided to outstanding students from GSU Confucius Institute; outstanding performers on HSK; who have won the preliminary round of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students in Huston Consular District; Chinese language teachers or those who intend to become Chinese teachers, and outstanding college students of Chinese language across Georgia State.

(3)Conditions:

I.Applicants are required to have studied at a Confucius Institute for more than 120 hours; or have a score of at least 180(level 3) on the new Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK).

II.Applicants are allowed to choose 2 host schools which offer several areas of specialization, including Chinese language and literature, Chinese history and Chinese Philosophy. However, the first choice MUST be “Beijing Language and Culture University” (BLCU).

III.Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens aged between 16 to 35 years old (Chinese language teachers could be up to 45 years old) and in good health.

3. Scholarships for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, MTCSOL:

Applicants will obtain a Master’s degree in MTCSOL upon completing the two-year study and passing the related examinations.

(1)The scholarship winner shall begin the study in fall 2012, and the grant will cover two academic years.

(2)Objects:

Scholarships for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages are provided to outstanding students from GSU Confucius Institute; outstanding performers on HSK; students who have won the preliminary round of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students and for Foreign High School Students in Huston Consular District; Chinese language teachers and outstanding college students of Chinese language across Georgia State.

(3)Conditions:

Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens aged between 16 to 35 years old (Chinese language teachers could be up to 45 years old) who are in good health and:

i) have bachelor degrees or its equivalent;

ii) with a score of at least 180 on the new HSK (level 5);

iii) make a written commitment stating that he/she will be engaged in Chinese teaching for at least 5 years after graduation. 

Applicants are allowed to choose 2 host schools, but the first choice MUST be “Beijing Language and Culture University” (BLCU).

II. Scholarship Coverage and Criteria

Scholarship holders are exempt from registration fees, tuition, fees for basic learning materials, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with a one-off resettlement subsidy, monthly allowance, outpatient medical service and comprehensive insurance for foreign students studying in China.

Monthly allowances are at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month): 

a. CNY 1,400 for one-academic-year study and one-semester study;

b. CNY 1,700 for Master’s Degree Students. 

The one-off settlement subsidy is CNY 1,500 for students who will study in China for one academic year or more. CNY 1,000 will be provided to all students who studies in China for one semester.

III.Application and Evaluation

1.The Confucius Institute at Georgia State University (GSUCI) will select the best applicants and recommend them to the host institutes.

2.How to apply

From the issue date of the application procedures, applicants can log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarship website at http://cis.chinese.cn, set up an individual account, complete the Confucius Institute Scholarship Application form online, print out the form and sign it; then submit it to one of the recommended institutes along with the other application materials (see article 4).

3.Application Deadline:April 30TH, 2012, 5 pm(EST).  

4.Application Results:

GSUCI will send the application materials for the Scholarships to Hanban/ Confucius Institute Headquarters, and related application materials to Beijing Language and Culture University by May 7th.

Applicants will get the results from GSUCI around June 30th. The “Admission Notice”, “Visa Application Form for Foreigners to Study in China" (JW202 Form) and other related materials will be issued to the qualified applicants around July 15th.

IV. Application Documents

Applicants must submit their documents according to the following instructions (all in duplicate):

1.Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form;

2.Photocopy of passport photo page;

3.Application statement: indicating the applicant's Chinese learning background, study plan and aim in China. It should be written in Chinese with no less than 800 words. 

4 .The copy of new HSK test result.

5.Diploma certificate and transcript. Applicants should submit notarized highest education diplomas attained or proof of enrollment.

6.Recommendation letter. The Master’s Degree Scholarship applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation by professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English);

7.Applications under the age of 18 should submit letters of approval and provide the emergency contact number for their legal guardians in China;

8.Written commitment : stating that the Master’s Degree Scholarship applicants will be engaged in Chinese teaching for at least 5 years after graduation (written in Chinese with the applicant’s  signature).

9.Copy of the award certificates of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese proficiency competitions or certifications issued by the organizers.

10. Chinese language teachers shall submit proof of teaching years and weekly teaching hours provided by the institutes they work for.

V. Approval and Annual Appraisal

1.The scholarship winners must register at the host institutes before the deadline set by the institutes. Scholarships will not be kept for those who do not register on time;

2.Scholarships will be cancelled for those who cannot pass the physical examination;

3.Students for a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) shall be subject to an annual appraisal organized by the host institutes in the second semester after being enrolled according to the “Annual Appraisal Procedures for Confucius Institute Scholarship”. Only the eligible students are entitled to continue to receive the Scholarships in the following year.

2012年孔子学院奖学金招生办法

为鼓励世界各国学生、学者和汉语教师来华研修汉语言文化,或攻读汉语国际教育专业硕士学位,国家汉办、孔子学院总部设立“孔子学院奖学金”。2012年孔子学院奖学金申请工作现已开始。

一、奖学金类别、资助对象及申请条件

奖学金按项目类别分为一学期研修生奖学金、一学年研修生奖学金和汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金。

1. 一学期研修生奖学金

(1)资助时间:一学期;入学时间: 2012年秋季或2013年春季。

(2)申请对象:

 申请者需为佐治亚州立大学孔子学院优秀学员;HSK考试成绩优秀者;“汉语桥”世界大学生、中学生中文比赛休斯敦赛区优胜者;佐治亚州汉语教师;佐治亚州中文专业优秀学生。

(3)申请条件:

A. 申请者在佐治亚州立大学孔子学院学习60 学时以上,或新汉语水平考试(HSK)成绩不低于二级120分;

B. 申请者可以选择两个中国学校,但是第一志愿学校必须是“北京语言大学”。专业可以是汉语言文学、中国历史、中国哲学等;

C. 非中国籍公民,身心健康,年龄在16 至35周岁之间(汉语教师可放宽至45 周岁)。      

2. 一学年研修生奖学金

(1)资助时间:一学年;入学时间:2012年秋季

(2)申请对象:

佐治亚州立大学孔子学院优秀学员;HSK考试成绩优秀者;“汉语桥”世界大、中学生中文比赛休斯敦赛区优胜者;佐治亚州汉语教师或有志于从事国际汉语教育的人士;佐治亚州中文专业优秀学生。

(3)申请条件:

A. 申请者在佐治亚州立大学孔子学院学习时间应达到120学时以上;或者新汉语水平考试(HSK)成绩不低于三级180 分;

B. 申请者可以选择两个中国学校,但是第一志愿学校必须是“北京语言大学”。专业可以是汉语言文学、中国历史、中国哲学等;

C. 非中国籍公民,身心健康,年龄在16 至35周岁之间(汉语教师可放宽至45 周岁)。 

3. 汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金:

申请者在华进行两年系统专业学习,学习结束后经考核合格,可获得汉语国际教育硕士专业学位和硕士研究生毕业证书。

(1)资助时间:两学年;入学时间:2012年秋季。

(2)申请对象:

孔子学院优秀学员;HSK考试成绩优秀者;“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛休斯敦赛区优胜者;佐治亚州汉语教师;佐治亚州中文专业优秀毕业生。

(3)申请条件:

A. 申请者应具有学士学位或相当学历;

B. 新HSK成绩不低于五级180 分。

C. 非中国籍公民,身心健康,年龄在16 至35周岁之间(汉语教师可放宽至45 周岁)。

D. 申请者须书面承诺毕业后至少从事5年汉语教学工作。

E. 申请者可以选择两所学校,但第一志愿学校必须是“北京语言大学”。

二、奖学金资助范围及标准

孔子学院奖学金资助范围包括:注册费、学费、基本教材费、一次性安置费、生活费,提供住宿、门诊医疗服务和来华留学生综合保险。

生活费标准是:一学期和一学年研修生为1400 元/月;汉语国际教育专业硕士为1700 元/月。

一次性安置费标准是:在华学习时间满一学年(含)以上者1500元/人;在华学习时间为一学期者人民币1000元/人。

三、申请及受理

1. 佐治亚州立大学孔子学院负责受理申请材料,择优推荐符合条件的申请者。

2. 申请程序 

申请者自即日起可登陆国家汉办孔子学院奖学金网站(http://cis.chinese.cn)注册个人账号,查询有关接收院校(GSU孔子学院申请者要求“北京语言大学”为第一志愿学校)及专业信息,填写、提交、打印《孔子学院奖学金申请表》,并将本人签名后的申请表及其它申请材料(见第四条)一并递交佐治亚州立大学孔子学院。

3. 申请截止日期:

2012年4月30日下午5:00。

4.申请结果:

5月7日前,佐治亚州立大学孔子学院将对申请材料进行预审,并将材料提交国家汉办、孔子学院总部及北京语言大学;

6月30日左右,佐治亚州立大学孔子学院公布录取结果;7月15日左右将《录取通知书》、《外国留学人员来华签证申请表》(JW202 表)及其它入学材料发给申请者。

四、申请材料

申请者须提交以下材料(一式两份):

1.《孔子学院奖学金申请表》;

2.护照照片页复印件;

3.申请陈述。请者须用中文介绍汉语学习背景、来华学习计划及目标等,不少于800字。

4.新HSK成绩报告复印件。

5.最高学历和成绩证明。申请者须提交经过公证的最高学历或在校学习证明。

6.推荐信。汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金申请者,须提交两名副教授以上职称导师的推荐信(用中文或英文书写)。

7.未满18周岁的申请者,须提交委托在华法定监护人的相关法律文件。

8.承诺书。汉语国际教育专业硕士奖学金申请者须提交毕业后至少从事5年汉语教学工作的承诺书(用中文书写并签名)。

9.“汉语桥”世界大学生比赛优胜者须提供获奖证书复印件或赛区主办单位出具的获奖证明。

10. 汉语教师须提交就职机构出具的执教年限及周授课时数证明。

五、入学及年度评审

1.奖学金获得者须根据接收院校规定按时到校报到。无故逾期未报到者,奖学金资格不予保留。

2.入学体检不合格者,奖学金资格将被取消。

3.按照《孔子学院奖学金年度评审办法》的规定,汉语国际教育专业硕士须在入学后第二学期,参加接收院校组织的年度评审,符合条件者方可继续享受下一年度奖学金。
