Staff Bios

 

Dr. Kevin Gaw

Kevin serves as the Director of University Career Services, where he started in August, 2008. Prior to Georgia State University, he was the Director of Career Development at the University of Nevada, Reno. He has been a licensed staff psychologist at both UNR and at Missouri’s University for Science and Technology (UM-Rolla). He interned at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. Kevin earned his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara; his Masters in Education (school counseling emphasis) is from San Jose State University; UC Santa Cruz is where he completed his undergraduate double major in Anthropology and Southeast Asian Studies. He also served as a volunteer in Indonesia, where he taught at an Indonesian university. He has collected wages as a landscape worker, wood cutter, foundation digger, a dish room manager, general laborer, and a heavy machinery operator. Born in San Francisco, Kevin grew up in Malaysia, where he attended the International School of Kuala Lumpur.

Angela serves as the Associate Director of Graduate and Professional School Planning. She has 17 years of experience in career services, as well as experience in business and human services.  Angela received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and MBA in Human Resources from the University of Chicago.

Karen Whitehead-Walker

Karen is the Associate Director of University Career Services at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She has 25+ years of experience in higher education administration and career services, as well as experience in corporate wellness programming and promotions. Karen received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin and MA in Human Resources, Training & Development from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.

 

Lolita Ferrell

Lolita is a 23-year business professional working at Georgia State University. Her professional career as a business executive gives her the ability to perform her role as Business Services Manager. Lolita attended Georgia State University. She later received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Continuing her education, she is also pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree in Human Resources Management. Proudly, Lolita has been involved with the GSU community for nearly 30 years. Lolita is an Atlanta native and has one daughter, J'Aimeka.

Ramona Simien

Ramona joined University Career Services in December of 2005. She manages the on-campus recruitment program for employers recruiting GSU talent. Her role has provided opportunities for employers and students to make connections through on-campus interviews, information sessions and several career events.   "It's very rewarding to help students find their passion and purpose".  She brings eight years experience in career services and business relations, with a specialty in event planning. She is a avid volunteer and frequently conducts workshops on job search skills in many community organizations.

Colleen Perry

Colleen joined University Career Services in January 2012 and coordinates internship & coop opportunities, supporting students and employers in creating challenging and engaging, experiential learning opportunities. Colleen has 15 years of experience career counseling in higher education. Throughout her career, she explored many fields including social work, human resources, and nonprofit. Colleen has a BA from High Point University in NC, an MPA from SUNY Brockport in NY, and a Master’s in Transpersonal Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in CA. She believes strongly in the power of experience (i.e. internships, volunteering, leadership opportunities, shadowing, a willingness to try new things!) and conscious reflection, in finding our unique life purpose and path.

Philip Rockwell

Phil received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from The State University of N.Y. at Buffalo, a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Dakota and his Master of Science in Professional Counseling degree from Georgia State University. This broad and varied educational background is matched by his varied and unique life and travel experiences. Phil has lived in England, The Philippines, Thailand, Okinawa, Turkey, California and other garden spots of the world. His passion is riding his motorcycle; one of his dreams-come-true was riding for a week in England! Phil has had many interesting jobs and a few careers. Phil is also the liaison to the College of Education and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.  Come and speak with him!

 

John Stanford

John Stanford is an Atlanta native who earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Wake Forest University in 1998 and his Master of Science in Professional Counseling right here at Georgia State University in 2009.  John worked at Fort McPherson as an Intern Counselor in the Behavioral Sciences Department and as a Career Counselor in the Army Career and Alumni Program where he helped a diverse group of military clients in their transition from active duty to career professionals.  He has worked in a variety of different fields, from summer welding jobs to contract work for the 1996 Olympic Games to computer support.  His interests include technology, movies, and sports.  John is eager to help students find their passion and success!

Nastassia Norris

Nastassia Norris obtained her B.S. in Psychology from University of Georgia, and earned her M.Ed. in Community Counseling from the University of West Georgia. During her time at UWG, she worked with students as an Intern Counselor at the Student Development Center and has previous work experience in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. Nastassia is very eager to assist Georgia State students in achieving their career goals.  

 

Melanie Jauch

Coordinator, Job Location and Development Program | Email
Melanie joined the UCS team in 2010 as a graduate counseling intern and is the current Coordinator for the Job Location and Development Program. Melanie assists employers in filling their part-time recruiting needs through info sessions, career fairs, and on-campus recruiting days. She also works closely with students looking for part-time and full-time non-degree employment. She graduated in 2007 from Herbert H. Lehman College in NY with a B.A. in Psychology and Anthropology and has completed a Master of Arts in Community Counseling program at Argosy University Atlanta.

 

Carrietta Butts

Customer Service Specialist | Email

Carrietta joined University Career Services in 2000. She has brought more than 16 years of corporate management, organizational and customer service expertise. Carrietta is a certified Global Career Development Facilitator, energetic and enjoys working with students and provides quality customer service to the students at GSU.  As manager of the resource center, she updates it with new career tools and provides a welcoming environment for our visitors. Carrietta also takes the time to work with local community groups to provide needed assistance in resume writing and job search as well as an avid supporter of the Arts community.
