Staff Bios

	Dr. Kevin Gaw Director \| Email Kevin serves as the Director of University Career Services, where he started in August, 2008. Prior to Georgia State University, he was the Director of Career Development at the University of Nevada, Reno. He has been a licensed staff psychologist at both UNR and at Missouri’s University for Science and Technology (UM-Rolla). He interned at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. Kevin earned his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara; his Masters in Education (school counseling emphasis) is from San Jose State University; UC Santa Cruz is where he completed his undergraduate double major in Anthropology and Southeast Asian Studies. He also served as a volunteer in Indonesia, where he taught at an Indonesian university. He has collected wages as a landscape worker, wood cutter, foundation digger, a dish room manager, general laborer, and a heavy machinery operator. Born in San Francisco, Kevin grew up in Malaysia, where he attended the International School of Kuala Lumpur.
	Angela Walker Associate Director \| Email Angela serves as the Associate Director of Employer Relations. She has 17 years of experience in career services, as well as experience in business and human services. Angela received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and MBA in Human Resources from the University of Chicago.
	Karen Walker Associate Director \| Email Karen is the Associate Director of University Career Services at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She has 25+ years of experience in higher education administration and career services, as well as experience in corporate wellness programming and promotions. Karen received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin and MA in Human Resources, Training & Development from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.
	Ramona Simien Career and Employer Relations Specialist \| Email Ramona joined University Career Services in December of 2005. She assists employers and students with all aspects of career employment and recruiting. Her role includes coordinating three career fairs, managing on campus recruiting and various career programs to assist students in their transition from college to career. Ramona is the liaison for the College of Health and Human Sciences and the Department of Computer Science. She brings eight years experience in career services and business relations, with a specialty in event planning.
	Sanford Dennis Internship and Coop Coordinator \| Email Sanford is the Internship and Cooperative Education Coordinator for University Career Services. He has an undergraduate degree in Legal Administration from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and an MBA from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, MO. Before coming to Georgia State, Sanford served as Chairperson of the Business Administration Department at Bauder College. Sanford has also taught as an Adjunct Professor at many local Colleges.
	Phil Rockwell Career Counselor \| Email Phil received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from The State University of N.Y. at Buffalo, a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Dakota and his Master of Science in Professional Counseling degree from Georgia State University. This broad and varied educational background is matched by his varied and unique life and travel experiences. Phil has lived in England, The Philippines, Thailand, Okinawa, Turkey, California and other garden spots of the world. His passion is riding his motorcycle; one of his dreams-come-true was riding for a week in England! Phil has had many interesting jobs and a few careers. Phil is also the liaison to the College of Education and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. Come and speak with him!
	Stacy Smyk Career Counselor \| Email Stacy moved from Philadelphia to join Georgia State in June 2008. She earned her undergraduate degree in Communications from Penn State and received her Masters in Counseling in Higher Education from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Stacy has previously worked in corporate recruiting and specialized staffing. As a Career Counselor, Stacy very much enjoys helping students discover self knowledge and the tools to confidently prepare for a professional career.
	Roslyn Davis Job Location and Development Specialist \| Email Roslyn joined University Career Services in February 2009. She brings 5 years experience in career services and human resources. She assists employers with developing and posting jobs for students. She also helps students with locating full and part time non degree off campus positions. Roslyn is the liaison to the Greek organizations. She received her B.B.A. in Management Information Systems as well as her M.S. in Human Resources, Training and Development from Marshall University in Huntington, WV.
No Picture Available	Shalanda Cofer Business Affairs Coordinator\| Email Ms. Cofer is responsible for marketing all upcoming University Career Services events to the University community. She is also responsible for the technical support for over 13 specialized computer software resources including Panther Career Net, the on-line career management system that is used by GS students, alumni, and top employers. Shalanda joined the University in 1995.
	Carrietta Butts Customer Service Specialist \| Email Carrietta, an import from New England, came to Georgia State University in 2000. She has brought 20 years of corporate management and organizational experience to University Career Services including over 16 years of customer service expertise. Carrietta is energetic and enjoys working with students. She now utilizes those skills in the Employer Relations area.
	Teresa Rideau Business Manager \| Email Teresa began working at Georgia State University in 1990. She is currently the Business Manager in the University Career Services Office. Ms. Rideau manages the financial affairs of the department, monitors departmental expenditures, and advises management in financial matters.
	Mildred V. Whitaker Administrative Assistant \| Email Mildred is the administrative assistant for University Career Services in the operations department. She has also worked with the Cooperative Education Program. Before working for University Career Services, Mildred worked in OEO-Trio with the Ronald E. McNair Research Program for eight years. She has twenty plus years of experience in education.
