Employer Information Sessions
Employer Information Sessions may be geared toward one of two goals: The "Come and Meet Us" meeting and the "Pre-Interview Information Session".
The "Come and Meet Us" session can be for companies who are new to the campus and are recruiting here for the first time. These information sessions should be scheduled prior to the pre-select deadline so that students will have the opportunity to indicate interest in your job. Companies who traditionally have a difficult time filling schedules may also use these sessions. Our staff will be glad to work closely with you to generate a high turnout rate and a strong interest in the jobs.
Companies generally hold the "Pre-Interview" session a week before the interviews of students. Companies that are familiar to our students traditionally have a strong pre-select turnout. This session is designed to give basic company information, i.e demographics, culture, future organizational plans, job information, benefits, company history, etc. This information session provides information necessary to all students but saves valuable time during the interview. Direct emailed invitations to the students are a very effective means to generate student attendance.
Information sessions will be advertised in the Panther Career Net "Calendar of Events" and flyers. Additionally, employers who offer "food" tend to have a higher turn out.
While attendance at information sessions is strongly encouraged, it is not mandatory. Many students at are non-traditional and work full time jobs and/or are only on campus for classes.
Utilize a mix of video and computer generated presentations. Our facility is equipped with an overhead projector and LCD panel.
Bring recent new hires to your meeting. Students can relate much better to "one of their own".
The best sessions are relaxed and informal conversations over pizza and soft drinks. Food service may be coordinated through Panther Dining Catering. Panther Dining Catering provides many refreshment choices. Contact information is provided with the information room confirmation.
Here are a few tips for a successful event:
1. Select a presenter who is approachable, and extremely knowledgeable about the company.
2. Keep it short. Allow at least half of your time for questions from the students.
3. Session should be fun and informative.
4. Contact student clubs and organizations to announce your sessions or to identify creative ways to generate student interest by visiting Student Life and Leadership.
5. Door prizes and give-aways are great.
6. Light refreshments are a great draw for sessions during the early afternoon.
