A leading research university in Atlanta, Georgia

Kiersten Smith

Class of: 2013
Hometown and High School: Peachtree City, GA; Starr's Mill High School
Major/Minor: Psychology/Pre-Med

I chose to attend Georgia State University because growing up in the suburbs can only be entertaining for so long. I wanted something new and different. I wanted to be able to explore many different options and Georgia State has multiple opportunities for that!

Campus Activities and Organizations: Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society Co-President, Freshman Learning Community Mentor, Student Alumni Association, 2010 Inceptor (orientation leader), Spotlight Programs Board Special Events, and Welcome Center Special Event Tour Guide

Most Memorable Georgia State Experience: The summer I spent as an orientation leader stands out the most for me. I was fortunate enough to meet some incredible individuals. I learned more about myself than I have in many years past.

If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be and why? Eliza Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys all the way! When I was younger, she was my hero. I love her sense of adventure and how curious she is about nearly everything. She travels the world with her crazy family, goes on wild explorations into the forest and talks to animals! Who wouldn't want to be Eliza?!

Favorite Georgia State Tradition: Everything about Homecoming week! I'm looking forward to more football homecomings.

What advice would you give to incoming students? Take each opportunity you have to meet people and to get involved. Many students come to college and think that this incredible experience will just be handed to them, but that's not always the case. You have to be willing to put in effort too. You also have to take initiative, but once you do, it's totally worth it.

After I graduate from Georgia State, I hope to attend medical school, studying in a MD/Ph.D. program with a focus in Neuroscience.
