A leading research university in Atlanta, Georgia

Colton Brown

Class of: Class of 2013
Hometown and High School: Commerce, GA; Commerce High School
Major/Minor: Psychology/Sociology

I chose to attend Georgia State University because I wanted a completely new experience, and my current surroundings couldn’t provide me with anything different. I lived in a small town all my life and was ready for the big city life, and after my first campus visit I knew GSU was the place for me.

Campus Activities and Organizations: Intercultural Ambassadors, Spotlight Programs Board – Public Relations Committee, Student Alumni Association, Alpha Lambda Delta, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key Honor Society, Honors Program, 2010 Incept: New Student Orientation Leader, Student Recreation Center Employee, Student/University Center Employee, Welcome Center Special Event Tour Guide, Family Weekend Planning Committee

Most Memorable Georgia State Experience: During my freshman year, I was walking back to the Commons in the rain. I was still new to Atlanta drivers and did not realize that they will splash you when they drive by. I got one street away from the Commons and a car sped by and soaked the whole bottom half of my body. It was just like in the movies.

If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be and why? I would most definitely be Gambit from X-Men! Who doesn’t want to make cards explode and talk with a Cajun accent?

Favorite Georgia State Tradition: Homecoming Week! Lots of free stuff!

What advice would you give to incoming students? Don’t come to GSU expecting a traditional college experience, because Georgia State is anything but. Be open to new ideas and experiences and you will have the time of your life and actually learn from your new surroundings outside of the classroom.

After I graduate from Georgia State, I hope to enroll in a Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program and afterward, have my own private practice and lecture at a university.
