B.S. in Chemistry
College: College of Arts and Sciences
Program: Chemistry
See Also: Department of Chemistry
Program Information
Chemistry deals with the nature of all substances and the changes that occur therein. It ranges from the study of the structure of atoms and molecules to that of the reactions occurring in living organisms. The study of chemistry can provide knowledge that will give students a greater understanding and appreciation of the world in which they live. In addition, a knowledge of chemistry is a great asset in areas such as biology, physics, and health-related fields. It is a logical basis for premedical training.
Suggested Schedule of Courses
This is a suggested 4-year schedule of courses for students interested in Physical or Analytical Chemistry or Biochemistry with ACS Certification based on degree requirements in the current catalog.
If a student does not want ACS certification they do not need to take Chem 4210, 4330, 4170 and 4600. This guide is not a substitute for academic advisement — contact your Departmental Advisor if you have any questions about scheduling or about your degree requirements. Also see the Department’s Recommended Schedule of Courses and the Undergraduate Catalog for a complete list of requirements and electives to choose from.
Students may choose to attend a summer term to reduce their load during fall or spring semesters but still stay on track to graduate in four years.
If considering this major, take Chem 1050 to explore this option before making a decision.
