Program Information

Anthropology, the study of humans, provides students with a perspective on the nature of humankind over time and in different environments. It is concerned with humans as biological beings (biological anthropology), with prehistory and cultural evolution (archaeology), and with how humans order their worlds socially and culturally (social/cultural anthropology), as well as with the nature of human language (linguistic anthropology). The Department of Anthropology offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. Undergraduate majors are encouraged to take a wide range of courses in archaeology, biological anthropology, and cultural anthropology.

Suggested Schedule of Courses

This is a suggested 4-year schedule of courses based on degree requirements in the2007-2008 Undergraduate Catalog.

This guide is not a substitute for academic advisement – contact your advisement office if you have any questions about scheduling or about your degree requirements.  In addition, those who have selected their major should meet with a departmental advisor at least once a semester for help choosing a track within the major, taking classes in the proper sequence, and career preparation (complete list of departmental advisors).  Also see the Undergraduate Catalog for a complete list of requirements and electives to choose from.

Students may choose to attend a summer term to reduce their course load during fall or spring semesters but still stay on track to graduate in four years.
