The basic format is as follows. The order of the address lines is very important, as is the inclusion of the department name in all address uses. It is essential that these standards be set as any change could affect the readable of the mail by the USPS machinery.
| Address Element | Example |
| Individual Name: | Pounce Panther |
| Department: | Office of the President |
| University: | Georgia State University |
| Address: | P.O. Box 3999 |
| Atlanta GA 30302-3999 |
Please Note:
• In all cases, the zip code will be 30302 and the zip +4 will be the same as the P.O. Box number.
• It is highly recommended that punctuation not be used in the address except for the dash between the zip and the zip + 4
• There is only one space between each item, except between "GA" and the zip code, where there are two spaces.
| Address Element | Example |
| Individual Name: | Pounce Panther |
| Department: | Office of the President |
| University: | Georgia State University |
| Address: | P.O. Box 3999 |
| Atlanta GA 30302-3999 |
Express delivery companies (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.) cannot deliver mail to P.O. Box numbers. Therefore, when you provide information for use by an express delivery company, please be sure to provide your physical street address ( 30 Courtland Street, 35 Broad Street, etc. and the 30303 zip code for Atlanta). All business cards printed will include your "Mailing Address" as well as your "In Person" physical address. Mail Services encourages each department to include its "Mailing Address" and its "In Person" physical street address on all publications as well as websites.
