Georgia State University Scholarships
The following competitive scholarships are available to incoming first year and incoming transfer students who have demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement. To be considered you must have already been accepted to Georgia State University. Please follow the instructions on the applications and submit all necessary materials to the Office of Undergraduate Studies.

National Merit, Achievement, and Hispanic Scholars
Students named National Merit Finalist, National Achievement Finalist, or National Hispanic Scholar, and who designate Georgia State University as their top college choice, will automatically be offered either the Presidential, the Berner, or the Goizueta Foundation Scholarship Fund award described below.
Presidential Scholarship
Outstanding high school seniors are invited to apply for a Presidential Scholarship. These merit-based scholarships, awarded for eight semesters, cover:

Tuition and fees (through HOPE for GA residents)

The cost of housing in the University Lofts (currently $2975/semester)
-
$1,000/semester for out-of-pocket expenses

$2,500 for participation in a summer academic research/travel program within the United States

Eligibility for the University Scholar Assistantship, worth an additional $1,000/semester
-
Personal use of a laptop computer
For Georgia residents, the potential total scholarship value is over $60,000.
For out-of-state residents, the potential total scholarship value is over $100,000.
Presidential Scholarship recipients in 2006 had an average GPA of 3.89 and an average SAT score of 1319.

Berner Scholarship
Incoming freshmen from rural Georgia, with a 3.0 or higher high school GPA, are eligible to apply for a Berner Scholarship. These merit-based scholarships are half-award and half-interest free loan, to be repaid upon graduation or disenrollment from Georgia State University. Awarded for eight semesters, they cover:

The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund Award
Students eligible for this award include those for whom Spanish is a first language or who demonstrate a strong interest in and familiarity with Latino/Hispanic culture through participation in Latino/Hispanic community activities. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, service, and financial need.

The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund Awards are available to entering freshmen as well as to entering transfer students who are recipients of The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund Award at their current institution.

Honors Out-of-State Tuition Waiver
Out-of-state incoming freshmen and incoming transfer students, whose permanent residence is outside of Georgia, are eligible to apply for this waiver. (Students currenty enrolled at Georgia State University are not eligible for this award.) The waiver reduces tuition from out-of-state to in-state rates. The waiver saves students approximately $12,000 per year.
Freshman applicants should have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and an SAT score of at least 1200 (adding verbal/critical reading and math sections only), or an ACT composite score of at least 27. Transfer applicants should have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA. The criteria and material that International students must submit is listed on the International Student waiver application below.
The application deadline for students entering Georgia State in Fall 2008 is April 1. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline date. Late applications are not considered.
