Event Description:
Jaleh Behroozi Soroui, American Institute for Research’s director for the Program forthe International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), will give a presentation entitled, “Measuring the Literacy Competencies of the United States and 23 Other Countries,” on Friday, Oct. 4, 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. in the College of Education, room 1030 (30 Pryor Street, Atlanta).
This presentation, coordinated by the College of Education, the Area of Focus Initiative – Research on the Challenges of Acquiring Language and Literacy, and the Center for the Study of Adult Literacy, will provide information on the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) a large-scale study funded by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and conducted in 2011-2012.
On October 8, 2013, the first results from the PIAAC will be released. PIAAC looks at the key cognitive and workplace skills of working-age adults (ages 16-65), and provide in-depth information about U.S. adults competencies compared to adults in the 24 participating countries. Data from PIAAC can enable the U.S. to better understand its global competitiveness, benchmark how well education and training systems are meeting emerging skill demands, and develop strategies that take advantage of our strengths to enhance productivity.
An RSVP is required to attend this presentation. Seating is limited, so please confirm yourattendance at 404-413-8131 or education@gsu.edu.
