Study Abroad

Georgia State University sponsors a growing number of excellent study abroad programs around the world. At Georgia State, you can receive academic credit for this type of experience. Students may also be able to apply their financial aid to the program.

Georgia State Internship Programs

Georgia State has a number of credit-bearing programs in place. Students who participate in GSU internship programs will receive GSU credit upon completion of the program. There are also GSU internship programs that are not for credit. Learn more about internship, work, and volunteer abroad programs.

Non-GSU Accredited Internship, Work, or Volunteer Programs

There are many non-GSU programs that coordinate your internship, work, or volunteer experience and provide a transcript upon completion of the program. GSU students can receive transfer credit for participation in these accredited programs. Credit must be approved before students' departure, the same as if the student were participating in a study abroad program. See links below for information on possible programs.

Getting Faculty Support for a Project

Students may find a job or program that does not provide a transcript for participation. It is possible to receive GSU credit for participation in a program of this type if the student coordinates their credit with a GSU professor. In most cases the student will be enrolled in a Directed Readings course and the professor will require some type of extra work on the student's behalf (readings, journals, papers, etc.) in order to award credit. Students are responsible for coordinating these details with a GSU professor. Learn more about possible programs.

Georgia State Faculty-Led Programs

Georgia State faculty may sponsor trips abroad for groups of students, typically at student rates. As courses taken for academic credit, your travels will incorporate learning objectives and activities related to an area of study. Check out upcoming programs.

Exchanges

Immerse yourself in learning at a college or university abroad. In return, a student from that university will enroll at Georgia State. You will participate fully in the courses you register for at the overseas university and receive credit toward your degree. Look here for contact information for exchange sponsors.
